Decided I needed a change. So sold my collection of GM sedans and wagons. Decided to build a Suburban. Picked this up 3 weeks ago and about have it done. 100% rust free. Going to use it as an every day driver

Nice! Good to mix things up once in a while......

I'm thinking you need some flares for those wheel openings.....

I'd need a step ladder to get in and out.
That's not an Illinois vehicle. I can't see the frame through the rocker panels.

I can see why you repainted it; luckily, the paint itself didn't start flaking off, otherwise, it likely would've had some 'patina' going on.

It came from Oregon. It still has the zinc look on all the can mounts IMG_1237.JPG

It's a fair bet the truck was at least under a shelter, let alone a garage. Despite the weather patterns, as long as you're not directly on the coast, rust is not that big of a problem.

It's an appropriate vehicle for northern IL. I'm surprised you didn't already have a 4wd. The neighbor has one sitting in his horse lot. It sat in his driveway for a year or so with the driver's window busted out and he finally moved it back there. Don't know what's wrong with it.....may have been stolen and recovered with damage. They suck too much gas for me to be interested.

At least in central Illinois this winter I didn't need a 4-wheel drive or snow blower. Usually winters suck!
There are 8 houses on our short lane. I'll swear between them there are 12 Suburbans, 6 Ford SUV's, and a dozen quadcab trucks. They drive back and forth past our house on average of 20 times each a day! Not that I care or keep track. I'm in front of a picture window at my computer.
I get 30MPG+ on my Impala and rarely leave home. That is until today and the next 45 days. Gas is still near $2.00 here.

This one is a 350TBI with the 4L80E overdrive transmission I am hoping to get close to 18mpg with it. I don't mind getting poorer fuel mileage since I don't have to make a car payment on it
