I'm looking for shop manuals for both my 85 CP and my 87 CC. I've found the main factory books (the really thick ones) from Ford and GM but I just wanted to know if these were the only ones that I really need or if there are supplements to these. I saw a supplement book on ebay for the 85 that has to do with load leveling and one for vacuum and electrical issues. Should I just get the main manual or would it be beneficial to get all of them?
Might wanna do some google searches, lots of websites out there with manuals you can download. Dunno how they arrange it or the legalness of it but some sites its all they do. Real popular for motorcycles.
Lucky for me that HandyAndy has the paper manuals for the 1978 Fairmont, or I'd have been printing pages from the CD version of my 1979 manuals, BUT, the CD manuals are good, because you can 'word-search' and skip to the sections that you need. This guy has the CD versions. A lot cheaper, but the Print versions are really handy. http://www.mre-books.com/shopmanuals/index.html Ford has the EVTMs, which I think are in the GM Fisher Body manuals. Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual.
Just a thought on manuals I was using (87 Caprice) the one from the library. I asked the lady what requirements are needed for the books go on the sales table. She said it had to do with how long they had it and how often is was checked out. Mine was there a long time and I had been the only one in a few yrs to check it out. She said it qualified and I got it for 5 bucks. Worth a try!
I have had and still have one set from the library. But I bought them on eBay from a guy that gets many of his from the libraries around the country. Always wondered how he got them. Now I know from your post, Bob. You are right...it IS worth a try.
Can't speak to the Ferd, but the Custom Cruiser needs a Chassis Service Manual and a Fisher Body Manual for complete info. Be aware that in 1987 Olds had separate service manuals for the different car lines, so be sure to get the one for the RWD cars. Also, the body manual covers Buick, Olds, and Caddy that year.
You might also consider a "wanted" ad on Craig's List. Never know what's out there. I have a set of factory manuals for '93 Pontiac Grand Prix if anybody needs them.
