Was on the way to Bend this AM, driving over the Cascades. Lots of snow had fallen in the last two days, but none today. Roads were relatively clear, no chains required. Got up to the top of the pass, about 5,700 feet. Two lanes my way. Lots of slush between the lanes and in the middle of them - with tire tracks clear but wet. Was going about 50, inadvertantly let the car drift into the slush between the lanes. Immediately lost traction, stayed off the brakes and gas. Car started heading toward opposite lanes. I put in a bit of steering correction and got it headed to the right. Car kept rotating around and hit a 4 foot snowbank with the right front corner at about 35 mph. Left rear immediately came around, left side stuck in the snow, and it rolled once. Ended up back upright, but at a 30 degree angle to the left, in 4 foot of snow, about 10 feet off the highway. Wife was shook up, but not injured. I was fine. No air bags blew. Front bumper and lower grill damaged; Lower engine covers broken. small dent in roof at front of moonroof (common). Moonroof not closing all the way. Roof antenna broke off. Dents in left front door and left mirror ripped off. Maybe some other stuff, but overall not too bad. Oh - it starts OK, too. Took two tow trucks to get it out of the snow.... I'll get some pics up tomorrow.....
Is Kadillac an Irish name? That shows that the Focus was well designed for passengers. Glad you're ok.
Dang it Krash! er-Marshall...I don't think I'm going to call you Krash anymore! One day after your birthday, it was almost your...er well, let's just say, SO GLAD YOU AND YOUR WIFE ARE OK! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Bummer about your Focus. Hope it is not hurt too bad. David
Wow, KK. It sounds like you handled it well given the circumstances. What a relief that neither of you is hurt (other than pride). It is scary how quickly and easily things can get out of hand. Just glad your years of driving kept you from doing what a lot of people would do - the wrong thing and just makes it worse. Good luck with the Focus.
that was a close one! You guys will do JUST about anything to start a new thread! I'm really glad to hear the only thing damaged was a FORD! SOOOO, will your wife be doing the driving now Just kidding I'm glad you both weren't injured. Hope your not to sort tomorrow.
Damn glad you and the wife are OK, Marshall. Yup....light cars and that type of slush don't mix. I did a twisting end over end and side roll in a Subaru for the same reason. (I always called it a Subaru somersault with a half twist) Once those light, small cars get up on that band of slush it's danger time. Really glad you guys are OK, pal....really am.
It really caught me by surprise. I've driven in slushy conditions before- never had a real problem. Either there was ice in the tracks, or the tires filled up with ice...... The roll over was really gentle, not really violent at all.
Dam Krash, I'm glad you and your wife are ok. I hate snow and ice. I guess that answers the question about getting a new car? Take care bud. Rick
K.K., WE LOVE YEAH MAN. GLAD YOU AND YOUR BRIDE CAME AWAY UNSCAVED NOW DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE IZ THERE AH NEW LONG ROOF ON THE HORIZON
