Looking for contact information for dealers handling reproduction or replacement chrome (Station Wagon only) rear bumper for my 56 Chevy. It got hit a couple weeks ago. The center section, left corner, and left bumper guard were damaged.
Danchuk, in Santa Ana, CA. https://www.danchuk.com/ I'm not seeing the '56 wagon rear bumper listed, but I only looked at one 'bumper' page. I'm sure they've got what you need. Call them if you can't find it.
I was also thinking Danchuk. Is Classic Chevy Int. in Florida still in business? That's where I got my 55's. Or go to Turkey Run Daytona this Thanksgiving and let Bumper Boyz rip you off.
56 Wagon Centers and bumper guards are hard to find. Talked to Danchuk and they do not carry them. There is a repro center I found but it does not have the guard holes drilled in it. Also unable to confirm the quality of the repro as compared to an original. Another option is to have mine repaired and rechromed but it is hard to nail down an exact price for the insurance adjuster.
My 55 Chevy wagon came with a car rear bumper when I bought it. The license tag was bolted to the tailgate. At the time I didn't know it needed special wagon bumper. I lucked out and found the left end and middle new wrapped in paper at a Classic Chevy Int. meet near Chicago. Had a devil of a time getting Classic Chevy to sell me the two rear guards when I ordered a rechormed right bumper end. They wanted cores. Everything was fine until I traded the wagon to a retard and he used an old bumper jack to jack the wagon up bending the bumper some. But he wasn't satisfied. He backed into something and now one bumper guard has a dent in it! I've been driving that way ten years.
classic chevy is still in business, they are in titusville fla now and are part of the eckler's family
I know they were but I stopped joining Classic Chevy and no longer get their books. I lost interest when they no longer were just 55-56-57 Chevy and Vette.
while the bumper boyz chrome isnt perfect and the inside of the grille guard was a little rough. it has been on the car for almost 15 yrs
And it's better than none! I've seen Bumper Boyz displays at swap meets. Mostly it's at least daily driver quality. What I've heard is if you order the parts you may never get them or what you get may not be good. Still I have no idea if this is true. I only buy what I can see and feel!
I recall when we were looking for bumpers for our 63 Ranchito project that I called Bumper Boyz. They were not very helpful. Of course, a 1963 Ranchero isn't high on most restorer's list of desirable projects, but you would think they would have at least have a source for "less than usual" requests. It seems to me that unless you are building a 65 Mustang or a 57 Chevy coupe it's going to be difficult to source good aftermarket replacements. Good luck in your search.
