Some of you who have been here a while will remember my old IH Metro. I really did't want to sell it, but needed the cash to purchase a more modern van to work out of. I bought it for $700 and probably had close to $2000 into it total when all was said and done. I thought I did good when I sold it for $4200 and the new owner was able to drive it from TN to Virginia. However, I just saw this one tonight. I guess because it is an early model it went for QUITE a bit more! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/International-harvester-Metro-van-1940s-/200857554218#ht_500wt_653 Here is a pic of my old '65 Metro for those who don't know about it.
They paid $20k for that? I was just thinking about your Metro the other day when I was looking at the HAMB's 'Step Van thread. Didn't look at every page though - yours might be in there somewhere........
My wife's nephew has one, I think 47, he is in the process of hotrodding. It was in about the same shape as yours Eagle, when you sold it, and he has built a new frame, not sure what power train he is intending to use but he seems fond of Mopar products. He got sidetracked with his 1950 Vanguard station wagon (I think it is a 50). I'll have to send him pics of yours, and the one on ebay. That might get him started on it again. As it is, he is intending to get the Vanguard running, rebuild the brakes, and drive it like it is as a putter around town car. The Metro will be used to tow a race car he is building.
That's what I thought. Since it went for that much, that meant there were at least 2 people who wanted to pay that amount. I'd like to see some pics of the his Metro.
It was probably those Vintage Commercial CA Plates that helped along the price. Seriously, that is the most complete original Metro I have ever seen right down to the Metro trim still on the skirts.
He is in Mexico, when he gets back I'll see if I can get pics. He doesn't know I have the pics of the Vanguard, got them from his wife on the sly I may have to pull that string again.
There is one of those sitting in the weeds about a mile from me. It's been there since I was a kid. I even saw a photo of it on line at one point on a Rotting junk forum thread. It's almost become a landmark.
That's quite a vehicle. Very original. I could go the $4200 for Eagle Freeks but this is way more than I'd want to spend. Plus another wad to redo it. Nice photos with this one.
