For a bit of fun I thought you might like to have a say on products & prices whatever they may be? Do you want to compare something to the same or similar Australian product...just post the product & price and I'll try and find our equivalent & price. (Please be warned you may get asked to describe the item from time to time as I may not be familiar with your product-for example I have no idea what root beer is??) I'll start with: I just had to post this as it's been bugging me since last night. I dropped by our Woolworths (Safeway) supermarket cause I really wanted some peanuts. I was after roasted in the shell peanuts. There they were a 500gram (I think 1.1 pound) Australian grown & roasted peanuts for $4.58. Next to it was a 750gram (1.65pound) bag of roasted, shelled and salted peanuts Product of China for $5.78!!! Okay I know Chinese goods are cheaper, but these nuts are shelled, then roasted, then salted then put on ship for the long haul to Oz and it's cheaper than the peanut still in the shell and is grown no more than 100 miles away from us?? I'm definitely missing something here??
4 litre jug (1 US gallon) of 3% homogenized milk is $4.59 in Winnipeg, and $14.00 up north (flown in from here every 2 weeks - no roads, 1 railroad if they can get through.)
Have you got this down there? Saves a bundle at home and keeps stuff circulating. There was a free 1992 Taurus for pickup last evening in our city. I don't have the time or the room this year, but it might have been interesting later. http://www.freecycle.org/
No that's a new one. I've saved it and I'll check it out later. Milk here for a 3litre bottle is $3.50. (I'm off too at 2.25am and I didn't finish the plans)
Shell Helix motor oil 5 litre plus bonus repco oil filter on special $29.99 (AUD) DeWalt Circular Saw 9 1/4". Powerful 2300 watt motor. The heaviest duty in its class. 87mm depth of cut. Bevelled lower guard. Strong, lightweight alloy base. DW389. $299.00 (AUD)
Being the thrifty guy that I am, I always look for sales, promotions, and close outs. I recently bought a 5 quart bucket of Valvoline high mileage synthetic blend for $15.00, a Motorcraft oil filter for $4.00. Thats a GREAT deal. A "better" fast food burger (Big Buford, Double Del, Big Mac) will run just under three dollars. Fried potatoes, a real profit maker for the restaurant will start at $1.19 for the small size, which is about half of a good sized spud. A small drink will be around $1.25, again thats another money machine for the restaurant, as their cost is less than a dime. A diner hamburger with Iced tea and fried potatoes set me back $6.75 (plus 20% tip) last week, and was one of the best I've ever had. The waitress even called me "hon." In a pub, you'll pay $7.00 for the sandwich, plus fries and whatever you drink and a tip (gratuity) of approx 20%. Whole chickens are around 1.50 per pound, but often go on sale for under a dollar a pound. Store brand sliced white bread is isually around $1.25 a loaf. Draft (draught) beer runs from a super low 'happy hour' price of $1.50, to the more normal $2.75 for a 12 oz glass. $3.00 pints are pretty common, but the price rises steeply for premium brands, and whenever there is live entertainment. A six pack of low end domestic beer can be had for around $3.5- 4.00. I just bought a 750 ml of Hardys chardonnay for $3.39. 1/2 gallon of milk can be had for less than $2.00 at one of the BIG stores, and gas is $2.60 or more a US gallon. All prepared food, clothes, tools, lumber, cars, auto parts, in fact, almost everything you purchase, has a 6.5-7 cent sales tax added at checkout. The only exceptions are raw food and medicine. Hookers usually charge.... Well, its been a VERY long time, so I don't remember what my friends told me they paid.
