It may (or may not) interest you to know that I booked a ticket to NYC to either pick up or walk away from a '94 Roady. Booked round trip just in case. This is NOT a cherry like I usually find. Needs a winshield, paint on the bumpers, wood grain, steering wheel, etc. The engine will be rebuilt and beefed up if I take the car. A little rough but the interior is alright, not rusty, the price is right, the color is right and runs out good according to the lot owner who I have been talking to and like. At least on the phone. The lot owner is my age and has been at the same location for 41 years. Just retired last week but is working this deal with me. Sold the lot to his nephew. OH! , and....no fees. I will send a few bucks tomorrow and they are holding the car for me until I get there on the 8th. Cheaper tickets when you book a week in advance. This is the ONLY Roady I have found in my color. Buying this (if I do) doesn't preclude my still looking at other wagons. UNLESS I can make this one fast enough and nice enough to suit me. Hey I said it's rough...so don't laugh......

That's one of the few black Roadmaster woodys I've seen. Seems most of the black ones had the wood delete........Black looks nice with the wood.

Well...I can see some bad stuff...but he told me about stuff I couldn't see. Seems a nice guy. It helps when they know you are a dealer...or was one... in my case. You know how to talk the talk with them. We shall see...that's why I booked round trip. I can always walk away.

Saw that one, A1A (used to live on A1A). When I saw the NY one I kind of liked the black with the wood look. Tranny rebuilt at 109K bothered me too. And he doesn't say how many miles on it. Also don't like some of the seats in the '96 models. Like the rolled seats better. They don't get all bunched up.

Actually, the rebuilt trans is a good thing in these. They were a weak spot at about 100,000 miles.
If this one doesn't pan out, try Fred who sells on ebay under 'mostlyunusualcars'. He has sold a ton of these cars, and honestly describes his cars. He is in New York state, but buys his cars from all over. He's in Waterloo, NY.

Yeah...I'm aware of the tranny problem. Always a risk taking a road trip home in an unknown car. That's what scares me most if I decide on the car. Don't like getting stalled on the road with a major problem. Especially at my age. Thanks for the advice...keep it in mind. Not sure I would know how to find him on Ebay though from your name without some link.

Well...when they went to the electronic tranny (a 700-R4 with electronic shift) they just don't hold up for some reason. I haven't looked into it yet because I didn't know if I would be getting one of these or not. But, trust me, if I get this Roady I will know in a few days of getting back just exactly where the problem is. I will probably regear the rear end, beef that tranny (or change it) and do a number on the LT1.

Hey A1A....how do you think I feel...this rig has about 130K on it and I have to travel home 1100 miles! 130K on that tranny is pushing it unless you get lucky. They don't ALL go out...but a good share do.

I bought mine in Niagara Falls, and flew back and drove it home, via Chicago, Kansas City, and through Montana. Not a problem, but I did worry on the airplane on the way there.
Got great gas mileage on the way home too!

Silver, if you do buy this car and on your way back, if you travel I-86 Let me Know. I will give you my number and we can meet up. I live just off the last exit in New York.

Would love to meet ya and we can have a bite to eat in the lil restaurant that my wife manages here in town. Excellent Pizza, Wings, Subs, Burgers or Chinese food. Being that all the girls that work there are Filipina, the Chinese is excellent.

PM me if you might be interested.

Oh, these have the 4L60 tranny, the same things all the 1/2 ton pickups do. Mine has 157k on it and its strong as ever. It has had the fluid/filter changed 2 times, according to the records 57K and 124k.
