Hello all, I'm in the process of getting a 1967 country sedan. I sold my 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T to get it. It's in Michigan, so I have a trip to do in a couple of weeks. I'm still torn about driving it home or renting a truck and trailer to get it home. (I won't have a registration, but I will have insurance) Its a 390fe motor with c6 auto and 3.00 rear 6 passenger with 2 bench seats and storage in rear floor area Wes
First welcomeagain. Not knowing exactly where you are but knowing it snows in Michigan and gets cold during winters I'd consider the towing set up over driving. Good luck on the new wagon.
Welcome aboard. Sounds like a sweet ride. I love the 66/67 FORDs. Be sure to post some photos of it once you have it and share your story about bringing it home.
Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I'm looking into uhaul for renting a truck from NJ to MI, and then rent the trailer in MI to NJ. Otherwise its a round trip with an empty trailer out there and mileage charges for essentially nothing. Wes
Smart move. You'll never regret it like we did when we got rid of our older rides. If only more of us here would do likewise
Welcome to the forum. Can’t wait to see some pics of that wagon!!! Good luck! I hope you don’t get “Bruced” on the transaction! Those challengers are pretty cool. Can we see some pics of that while we wait for wagon shots?
Westu, was faced a similar challenge last year, the Colony Park I bought was outside of St. Louis, need to get back to Virginia. worked out the cost of flying out, driving back, trailer and getting car company to bring back. costs are close estimates Fly drive back, time 3 days - $485 - $600 Drive out, trailer back - 4 days - $800 - $900 - cost of 1 way 2 axle trailer $500 Car Company no time - $775 - $900 I opted to have the car transported back, 1. required no time on my part, 2. weather in January could get questionable, 3. driving a 32 year old car 800 miles - is asking for it, 4. cost the same no matter which 1 I picked, and even the cheapest to the most expensive at $515 was not enough of a savings to sway me to do it mostly time, weather and age of car diving back. No regrets, would have to dig for exact cost but pretty sure didn't cost over $900 including insurance.
Mak, Driving the car back is out. The vehicle is not currently registered. I have to get title and register in NJ to get plates, then I can drive. I'm also going ut there to finalize the transaction for the car, and to check it in person before final payment. I'm going to rent a u-haul truck round trip fron NJ, and then get a 1 way from MI for the trailer. So far estimates are about $600 for the truck and $170 for the trailer, so not too bad.
That wagons cool. Thanks for the pictures, did you save some money from the challenger to put into the wagon?
Sorry Poison Ivy, The 5.7L Hemi went with the Challenger. The Ford does have the 390fe motor, maybe a bore and crank away from a 427? Or maybe a 3 deuces..... Some of the extra is saved for the car, but actually put most of it to the 2nd mortgage... Wes
