Well, I may have found a wagon. A 1966 Caprice wagon, white with the wood grain sides. A 9 passenger wagon although the owner sold the rear seat. Rock solid body with paint about 3 years old, frame and floor rock solid too. It's really a great wagon, but the cool part is that it's a BBC 396 with air, pw, pb, ps, posi, all the goodies. Blue interior and everything works. I'll get some pictures when I pick it up in a week or two and post them. It's not my first choice of wagons, but the price is right and it doesn't need too much to be on the road.
    I'll post pictures soon, yahoo!

Congratulations, '63. Sounds like a real nice long roof. Can't wait to see the pics. I'm thinking '66 might have been the first year for the Caprice. Anybody know for sure?

Yep, 66 was the start of the Caprice. Cool find. I had a 66 Impala wagon with the 396/T400 about 12 years ago. Fun car. My wife wants me to find a good 66 small block wagon for a DD. I'd like a '63. But no buying till after we move.

FYI - The Caprice actually came out as a 1965 1/2 model in 4-door hardtop form only - basically a limited-edition, more deluxe Impala.....upgraded seat and door trim, better carpet, walnut-trimmed dash, etc.......
In 1966 it became it's own full model line with 2-door hardtop, 4-door hardtop and wagon versions.

Interesting, KK. I didn't know that; I thought '66 was the first year, but you're right. I wonder if the suits at Chevy had any idea that name was going to stick around as long as it did.

Thanks for posting the pix's of a 65 Caprice. I always thought it was 66 when they started that model. I had a 66 Caprice with a 396/400 when I was way younger

Me too. Loved it. Good thing gas was less than a buck at the time though.

If you'll all recall (if you can), in the mid 60's, the manufacturers started what I would call 'luxury wars', trying to increase sales on their bread-and-butter big car lines. The economy was good. There was more disposable income than ever before. America was trying to pull itself out of the 1964 funk after the JFK assasination.
-- Ford went upmarket from the Galaxie 500 an brought out the LTD (IIRC, also a mid-year '65 debut, same as the Caprice). Plymouth upped the Fury with the 'VIP' in '66.
