I didn't see it happen as I had my back turned... Started as a great nite, I was BBQ'n and the dogs were running the ball to me and I was throwing it over my shoulder backwards to then have Rascal start sceaming in alot of pain sitting holding his one front leg up. The Emergany Animal Hospital was great, they were waiting with a gurney at the front door. Rascal was so messed up they sadated him uncontious for X-rays. Nothing broken but he badly sprained his shoulder and ankle, and the X-rays showed previous damage that was now healed. Some of you mite remember his front paws and legs were injured when I got him, I jumped through hoops to be a foster parent before I could adopt him, he's a Rescue Dog. We got home after midnite and I caried a heavely druged pup inside after I set up a air matress in the living room where I slept with him, well tried to sleep. As the drugs wore off he had a bad nite and only a short time ago fell asleep, Deb is with him now. They can't wrap him and we have to ice him to get the swelling down, he's gona be in rouph shape for awhile we are told. He is to move as little as possible for the next few days and the vet sugested a kennel for when we go to work, thats not goig to happen! I'm going to take a few days off from work and take care of him.
Poor Rascal. Sorry to hear that. He's had some rough times, but now that he's part of your family I'm sure he knows he will be well taken care of. Glad nothing was broken, but the sprain will take a while to heal.
So, this is a recurrence of that prior injury, Tedy? That dog has been through a lot, it seems, but he's a lucky dog that you guys found him and took him in. He will be loyal to you forever and rightly so.
Tedy, Rascal is so lucky to have a family that loves him so much. You are a very loving person, to care for Rascal so devotedly. My hat is off to you! David
if a cage or crate may help him don't be so quick to say no. some dogs actually are ok with the protection it affords them. i have a shepherd and a retreiver if i leave the cage out sometimes they both try and squeeze in to lay down or take turns. the cage we have is about 30" wide x 3 ft long x 30 " high
Good Point, 59wagman! Dogs know when they are hurt and it may even be BETTER than having him out with Tedy around. He will try to be with Tedy and please him. Left alone with the crate, chances are Rascal will take protected refuge in it.
Our daughter's dog goes in her pen to sleep and rest. Many dogs love them. Maybe tedy's wife can buy two crates. Or one large one, for him and Rascal!
Sorry to hear about Rascal Tedy! It tears me up when an animal is in pain. I've spent many a night sleeping on the living room floor to be close to an uncomfortable pet. Hope he's up and chasing balls again soon!
Actually Tedy sometimes a crate can be a comforting place to recouperate. It can give him a calming affect...but you know him best. So sorry to hear he's injured, but don't worry he'll be back catching that ball before you know it.
Thanks all for the coments and advise...Thanks for digging that pic out fannie Rascal and a kennle/cage.... It must have something to do with before I got him, he is scared to death of them, won't go near one as we have found out. He is hurting but comfee. He has been out a few times on a leash to do his "thing' and each time just lays there. I think he knows when it comes to being inside also... he just lays and has done alot of sleeping, clearly not able or intersted in moving around. Yup, I'm sleeping with him again tonite and I'm on my way out to do the BBQ we didn't have last nite.... I know Rascal and the old man kirby will like some 24+ hour marinated Montreal Beef
Soooo your sleeping with the dog tonight...sounds to me like you are in the doghouse... is the dog really injuried or are you just using that as a cover...did you scratch Honies new car or something?
....yeah I could see that home reno going over well! Yup, he's hurting..he really hurt himself and it shows..still today, no play, no nothing, perioud, he now just likes sleeping, and of course being a sponge when it comes to petting but thats a good thing, he is eating and drinking water as of last nite. On a leash I have had him outside several times today and he is clearly happy being out but just drops and after a few short minutes wants back in the house. My honey is taking Wed/Thurs off to watch him. I'm dam glad I have the boss I have, Sunday AM I got the OK to stay home and watch the pup. Yet all the time waisted on the forum I still got alot of work "WORK" done....sorry, couldn't resist
