Norman here is my plan for getting better mileage.

    1. Put factory OEM carb back on
2.Put new valve cover gaskets on
    3.Completely clean and degrease engine.
4.I have read about HAI(hot air intake) and RAI(ram air intake.Cold air)
    5.New E3 plugs,MSD Dist cap,Msd Rotor button,MSD control module,MSD Coil,Taylor 8 MM wires.
6.Change all fluids (oil, trans fluid, rear end) to Royal Purple syn oil and gear lube.
7.Change steel wheels to aluminum wheels.
    8. Headers and dual exhaust
    9.electric fans
    10.Electric Water pump.
    11. Also plan to convert the rear drum brakes to disc brakes will be a weight reduction.

As I see it after making each change I will have to chart any improvement or drop in gas Mileage. I also seen while going through Summit Racing.Com site that they have a exhaust wrap which keeps all heat in the pipes and away from all lines and floor.

I know some of these mods won't be too expensive but others will be.This plan is what most car enthusiast.

So anyone have idea's for cheap mods that really work post them here.

Some plan! Looks like you'll get good oomph and good MPG.

How much do those boat anchor rear drums weigh?

I think you can save some money on the oil. Synthetics are great in tight engines.
There are some very good ones out there that are cheaper, especially after the rebate offers.

I have no Idea but I imagine they weigh quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if they were truck drums since it has the same bolt pattern and trucks used the same axles or close to it.I think I could knock close to 50 lbs or more when I do that conversion. I need to do more research to see what factory parts will interchange.

Man, if you do that you'll never have to worry about rear brake drums. I hope you do and make sure you give me the secret. Walking, bike riding and giving up ice cream and potato chips haven't done the trick yet and I don't think taking up running again will help when to old knees give out.

    Good luck.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

I've heard that for every 50 lbs of reduced vehicle weight, you can save 1 MPG, and get 2 MPH more at the top end.

Does that it back on topic? :D
