Just got a 62 Falcon Sedan Delivery . The headliner in is pretty good shape but has mold on it . Any ideas to clean it ? Thanks
There are sprays available which consist of diluted chlorine. Unfortunately, after the mold is gone, like so-called "artists" in the music industry kicking their buckets, their "artwork" doesen't go with them. Traces of mold-caused damage will remain, just like dead lousy musicians leaving their noise behind
Go to a marine supply store. They have some excellent products available that remove mould stains from white vinyls let alone coloured stuff. I've used them on my boats and they work great.
Does it work on leather without damaging it? My '97 Exploder has been sitting since July, and it sprouted sometime after the rains started.
Mold can only feed on organic material of which leather and cloth are, unless the cloth is purely synthetic. If I'm not mistaken, the Falcon should have a perforated vinyl headliner
For leather I would only use a wetrag, clean it off as best you can, dry it, then use leather cleaner, then leather oil
I used a product called "Concrobium" on my boat fabric in the head (potty, loo, toilet) area that removed the nold/mildew and the stains. I gotit at the bog box home store (Lowe's, in this case). It's made for household mold and mildew removal, but I thought what the heck I'll try it. And it worked. I have not tried it on any auto fabric or material , though, so your mileage may vary.
Organic chemistry consists of compounds that contain carbon and hydrogen radicals. Petroleum products are organic. All plastics, vinyls, polyethylenes, asphalt shingles, etc are made from petroleum, so they are all organic. They are all subject to mold.
There is a process where the area is sprayed with CO2. The mold spores are frozen and just fall off. Used here In Maine to treat mold in homes. look it up in your area. They are mobile units they just may come to you.
