Someone was real lucky in this accident involving a Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon: "DEMING, Wash. -- Troopers say a woman is lucky to be alive after dozens of long poles impaled her car during a crash near Deming. A couple in a station wagon was pulling trailer full of 27-foot long "Tipi poles" along the Mount Baker Highway around 9:45 Tuesday when they slowed for dump truck turning by Everson Goshen Road, said Trooper Keith Leary. However, a woman driving a Toyota Camry behind the trailer didn't slow and crashed into the back of the trailer, sending dozens of the poles through her windshield and out the rear window. Leary says the rear view mirror of the Camry was impaled on the end of the poles. The driver of the Camry was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham with various injuries but amazingly, none are considered life-threatening. Troopers are still trying to figure out why the Camry driver didn't stop. The driver of the station wagon says he was only going 25 mph at the time of the crash. Leary says at this point, the Camry driver tells them she doesn't remember anything."
The woman in the Camry may not have been lucky but someone or something was watching when she wasn't. Not going to say cell phone.....BUT ! Another wagon saved. Notice the only thing stopping the Camry from going farther forward were the trailer wheels.
Really is amazing that anyone in the front seat wasn't killed or seriously injured. It's creapy to look at the photos. Imagine how close her head was to that rear view mirror on those poles.
Seeing this brought back a bad memory from my claims days. This occurred in the early 90's... Was at a large body shop that also had an associated towing company with a AAA towing contract. I was walking in their back lot looking for another vehicle when I happened to notice a late 80's Nissan P/U sitting there, with the left front wheel missing. I also noticed a huge hole in the rear part of the left fender wheelhouse. Hmmmm...... I take a look inside the passenger compartment. Huge amount of dried blood on the seat. Then I see it. Another huge hole in the seat back, right where the driver's torso would have been. Rear panel of the cab was bent, but not pierced. Found out from the staff the guy hit the end of a 4x4 wood guard rail on the 60 freeway.
These type accidents are just totally ridiculous and unnecessary. Distracted driving....probably involving a cell phone I'd bet. Maybe ins companies should be let off the hook from paying on these accidents? Claims costs on these drive up all our rates. I manage to stay off the phone while driving.... what';s the big attraction with these phones anyway while driving??
Well....we have this poor lady in front of the firing squad for causing this accident while being distracted by talking on her cell phone. Anyone see her on that phone?
The accident MO with the cell phone is so typical..........do we even need to guess? Anyone paying even half attention to their driving isn't going to ram a trailer full of sticks hard enough to drive them all the way through their car. Looks like she didn't even hit the brakes.
We should all be calling our state reps to have them introduce legislation where accident claims will NOT be paid to anyone who is found to have been on the phone within a minute or 2 of an accident.
Just tonight on our way to dinner a van in front of us with a roof rack with quite a pile of 2x4's and 4x4's on the roof, very loosely secured, very scary. We turned a few blocks early to avoid an issues. I'm always nervous of vehicles with poorly secured loads, or where they are sticking way out.
