I may have a few years back but I stay away from as much of Mardi Gras as I can as I get older. It has been strange this year since they condensed it into 3 weekends because of the cost of clean up. Imagine that, another state who's government is bankrupting the state! My youngest usually has me take her to 1 or 2 parades but she wasn't interested this year. We may go to the local one here in Slidell tomorrow or the last one next week if she wants!
If you get a chance Old Fox, try a Randazzo's King Cake, little pricey but worth it!

Shoot. Bourbon street is wild enough without it being Mardi Gras. I went years ago before the flood, no where near Mardi Gras time and people were still going crazy. It ain't gotta be Mardi Gras for people to expose themselves!

It is a delicious cake with purple, green and gold sugar on it. Randazzo's bakery also puts icing on theirs and you can also get them filled with cream cheese and fruit fillings. I personally like the plain king cake and I just think Randazzo's perfected them!

We get our King cake from Gambino's. I prefer the cream cheese ones because the regular one dries out before we can eat it all. She also brought home a Louisiana peach pie. I have no idea what makes it different from a regular one and we have no ice cream to go with it. Will have to take a trip up to Baskin Robbins and get some.

We've been to New Orleans many times but always in July or August when the good normal people go. I've never seen any exhibitions of craziness! At least none I can remember!
We even went to a few car shows near where 1tireman lives. Most of the people there seemed normal. Of course at the time we lived in NW Florida where they wrestle big snakes and gators barehanded and the purdy wimmin wear bib overhauls and nothing else.;)
Last time we were there however was for nearly a month and left one week before Katrina. We'd looked at and talked about buying a run down small hotel way at the east side of the Muddy River near the end. I'm sure that place ended up in Gulf Shores or someplace. It looked a lot like Fawlty Towers.
That's all I have to say about this!:2cents:

Gambino King Cake would be a very close 2nd for me. They are definitely one of the elite when it comes to King Cakes! And just so others are aware, if you get the baby in your piece, you have to host and buy the next King Cake!
Tedy, the creepy baby is new. The name is Baby Cakes and it is the new mascot of New Orleans AAA baseball team formerly known as the Z's or Zephyr's. They have a lot of angry people over that, a couple of the other names that was considered (and more appropriate) was Tailgators and Nutria's. Either were better than Baby Cakes!

ive seen the zephyr s play the Sounds here in Nashville. The fact that the new mascot is baby cakes is hilarious. I mean it is just AAA ball anyways. Who takes that seriously? I used to go to the OLD stadium here in Nashville especially on "thirsty thursdays" ($1 beers). Now they have a new field downtown and it costs more for a beer there than at the titans stadium. Best memory at the old stadium is heckling MJ when he retired basketball for baseball. Loved watching him with the bulls. Not so much for the whites sox farm team!!!
