I have had friends tell me to do a two-tone paint job on my Malibu Wagon conversion. I did modify the body line on the top edge of the quarter panel near the B-pillars so if I do go with two colors there is a good line for the break and some pinstriping. The main color will be GM Graystone Metallic and the interior is going to be a 66 GM stock #30 Red. I am looking for possible ideas using a second body color on the top. That color would come down the B-pillar and C-pillar and follow about a 2" narrow body line along the top side of the quarter panel past the windows then continue down the body line by the taillight which means the tailgate would also be the second color. The windshield pillars would remain the Graystone color. Any help with second color suggestions and some photoshop images would really be appreciated. The picture of my diecast model is the main Graystone color. Thanks
As grey, in general, is a neutral color, the criteria should be what second color would work with the interior red color you selected? I wish I had at least one pic to illustrate, but Mom's 1980 Silverado pickup was tu-tone silver and charcoal grey, which if you're familiar enough with Chevy trucks, you should be able to visualize it. It, too, had the ubiquitous "Porno Red" interior which may be the same shade as what you've selected, maybe not, but still red. Because that interior is a primary color, using another primary color may not work. I would suggest a second neutral color; it doesn't have to be silver. It could be another shade of grey, it could be white, or black. All three of those would work splendidly. And if you used white or black I'd keep those as non-metallicized colors. What model year is the Greystone Metallic?
I agree with the interior red being a primary color and the Graystone is being used on the dash and the exposed metal on the interior. I believe I got the Graystone Metallic from a 2011 color chart. I know they used it on GM cars and truck for a few years.
If you Google the color code or model year, you'll find that website that publishes the color pallettes the card makers use by model year. Searching through them starting, say, in 1995, might yield a likeable, fittable color.
You need a better pic with less clutter in the background to photochop, could be done with that pic but not easy. I have the program but haven't used it in a while and it would take takes me months to figure it out again. That GM Graystone Metallic looks exactly the same as GM Gunmetal Metallic? The '91-'92 Custom Cruiser's lower cladding is Gunmetal Metallic and in '91 you could get the car in the same color. Those mono-color cars usually had the red interiors too. I agree that black, silver/gray or white for the roof with a bright red interior would look good. You could do Chevy rally stripes on the hood and possibly the tailgate in the same color too.
