Hey guys, My trans is leaking pretty badly, it leaks about a quart a day. I drilled in some stop-leak and it sill leaks.. Whats off is that it leaks near the radiator, I'm not sure specifically where, but its somewhere in the engine bay as it sprays everywhere, it sprays on the belt, on the exhaust manifold, the vacuum tubes. It sprays the stuff out faster than HPV spreading around among millennials. There is also this clicking coming from the bell housing, there's also a squealing sound when the engine goes above 1200 rpm. it slips out of gear around hard turns and when i brake. maybe the cooler lines cracked near the radiator?
It could be the cooler lines. It could be where the cooler lines attach to the radiator. It could be the radiator itself. You have to be systematic and do a little detective work to track down the leak.
There is some serious sludge buildup in the rad... ill search for any bad leaks tomorrow and post what i find.
Pull the fan and shroud, clean the lines, then do a very close inspection. DO NOT start the engine to see where it's squirting out! A) a spray like that can ignite; B) if you get hit in the face with the spray, it can poison you, from making you very ill all the way to death! It's likely one line is rubbed through somewhere, and cleaning, then inspecting usually will find it.
If it's sludging the water, it sounds like a freak situation where pressurized coolant is propelling the death spray out of a leaking transmission heat exchanger. You could bend yourself a by-pass tube, in order to connect at the tranny. If after that, only coolant sprays, you'll have the cause. Leaky Trannies of the type thread titled are usually bodged back alley conversions using alcohol-initiated- anesthetics and anesthesiologists
That sounds like a more logical scenario given my case, I'll post a pick looking down the rad opening later today. The sludge is -bad-, like sticking your finger in and pulling out a mentos size chunk bad. That bypass solution seems like a quick fix for now. What would be the long term damage from disconnecting from the radiator for the trans, quicker wear due to excessive heat?
I did. Didn't you get it? By-passing it is only for diagnosis purposes. Driving it around without cooling will shorten the trannie's life
The alternative would be to plumb in a separate cooler, but in so doing, you may experience trans hiccups due to the trans being cold. The cooler also acts as a warmer on cold running until everything warms up. Oh, I noticed it, but I though the OP was watching " Rocky Horror Picture Show."
Who knows if it's humor? What if he really has one of those early cut n' tucks chained up somewhere in his basement?
