I joined the forum because I'm wierd and like station wagons and have owned many over the years, beers(coffee now:162:), and tears:coco:.

We have a stickey intro thread...

we have a for sale thread and a parts wanted thread.....

Maybe they all should be tied together?

Our for sale thread clearly says you must have 5 posts before, yada, yada but there is nothing in our intro thread that says......some thing to the effect of.....Please make 5 posts etc before you try to sell your car, please don't just join to dump your car/look for parts.

In the year I have been here there have been alot of 1st time posters who are only here for the moment, I want to sell, I want parts, and we never hear from them again. And they seem to take advantage of the intro section to sell or look for parts.

It's like the Rev said in the intro thread, You walk into our shop, drink our beer, don't say thanx, then leave and nobody knows who you are ( flipin the bird smiley here)

I (this past week) had a new member with zero posts PM me looking for parts, No hi how are ya, etc, etc, just a lame...."Parts?, me want, you got?" PM. I'm not answering that.

I still remember this one..... Months. months ago, a new member rite here on my island joined and his first post was looking for parts (tailgate) for a 63 or 4 Fairlane. By a stroke of luck for sale in my city was a complete torn apart fairlane that I gave him a link too. Almost no time passed and the local car was sold and I can only speculate that the guy from up island bout it (it happened that fast)....did I or we the forum ever hear a second post from this person....NO.

I realize some people are not social butterflys when it comes to forums (shy) but at least TRY to fake an attempt, you'll get better action:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

We are a friendly place sharing the same interests no matter what the wagon but ( and this is just my opinion) If your only joining to sell and or for parts, what are you contributing?

    Well said.

I think that those who have something (or at least think they do) will stay and continue to participate.

The others will come and go...

And maybe that's why we have a pretty good bunch of contributors.

well most times, when I say what on my mind. I'm told to shut up but I agree with the 5 post before any sold or for sale parts are posted.

I'm with you on that Tedy. I generally ignore them, but I'd like to be kissed first before the sales pitch.

I agree Tedy. To just get what you can get and then get gone really isn't the point of this forum. I'm new and read a lot of what's posted, and if I feel I have something to share, I share, if not, the I don't. It's kind of like dropping in at Cheers. No matter how off the wall you are, as long as you show some respect, you won't be asked to leave.

Erik, I was responding to your post below mine. Wonder how that happened. ???!!!

I do that sometimes, because I need the documents or wiring diagrams, but I usually post an intro and some pics and then post a hard-learned lesson of tip and ask for info. The whole point of these vehicle sites is to cross-pollenate our collective knowledge and keep the hobby going, right?

But some folks are like seagulls, they hit and run. :D

    Another observation:

Today the front page shows that there are 3,444 members (y)

But when I open the Members list under the Community button and select Posts,
it says that there are "only" 2746 results (members?):

    [IMG] < Click thumbnail

And what also puzzles me is that we have 1506 members with 1 or more posts behind their name:

    [IMG] < Click thumbnail

So that leaves us with 1240 registered members without any posts....[IMG]

Maybe they just register so they can view attachments, or receive e-mail notification from new posts from threads they are interested in ?

Yes, Fat...you are right on. Way too many sellers just hit the intro section to sell. Norm has the right idea to ignore those posts entirely and MOST of us do. It irritates me to see someone answer those posts after they have been ignored by the general membership for days. Some of the sellers make a half hearted effort to try and fool us all which irritates me too.

" Hi everyone! This looks like a great place with nice people. I think I will enjoy it here! I have a 62 Plodge Wagon and I have enjoyed this car SO much for the entire 20 minutes that I have owned it! It has been a real pleasure to drive. Alas....I have lost my job, my dog ate the wife and kids and the economy is forcing me to have to sell my beloved wagon. I don't know what it's worth so maybe you can help me out by offering tons of money for it. I tried to post pix but my camera has been repossessed. I'll try to borrow one from the local Goodwill store and post some soon!"

    I deleted that post because I changed image "SWF3" (added numbers 1501 - 1506)
But because the old image was still in my cache memory, it didn't show the edited image.

So I tried if deleting and posting the same post again would make a change.

But for me it doesn't, so I reckon it will change over after I reboot my computer and open this thread again.

The moment I deleted my post and made a repost (in less than 5 seconds), you posted your reply, so my repost ended up under your answer.

Another board I am on requires 25 posts and 30 days of membership before you can even look at the For Sale section. I can think of a couple of people even since I signed up here who have come, sold their car, and left. I guess that's how it goes sometimes, but it is truly annoying.
