I believe that could be one of the 'factory' kits I think Jeep offered on these. Notice the 'Jeep' and '4x4' stick-on emblems have been applied on top of the Di-Noc. Also has a more substantial appearance than one of the aftermarket kits, picture below.
I guess now that I think about it, Jeep has always had some kind of wood option haven't they? That's just the first time I've seen it in the liberty...
Sometimes they were actual models, other times, as with the Liberty, it was just an option box you checked off. In fact, with the Liberty, it might not have been an 'option' at all - could have been something you had to order through the parts department as a 'factory-approved accessory item'.
I'm betting that this is the most plausible explanation. I was never a big fan of the Liberty, but I also never hated the little thing. I like the way this one looks with the wood grain. I think it is nicely done.
Ford had the "Eddie Bauer" editions. This jeep would make a good "l.l.bean" edition. Would look nice paired with a $150 flannel shirt
L.L. Bean is paired with Subaru. But there's REI up for grabs. And honestly, Ford and Eddie Bauer totally screwed the pooch by not having camping gear, garments and other swag you could buy to go with your particular EB Ford. I have a '97 Exploder and I had an '89 Bronco that would've both benefitted from a tent setup for each rig that would just attach to it to keep you off the ground but still be more or less comfy.
