BLUE INTERIOR! Ok well I believe I have decided the first step I am going to take to my caprice more my own is to change the entire interior. Question I have for you guys is which way to go.....I am back and forth betweer a old school rat rod look, with tweed, brushed alum and black and reds..... or a more modern look with new guages, leather seats, and more of a performance look, similar to the 96 impala So here are some of the plans so far..... New Guage Cluster NO MORE BLUE! Black plastic pieces everywhere Wrap material in tweed or leather Bucket Seats NO WOODGRAIN either replaced with brushed alum or painted Floor Shifter New Stering Wheel custom headunit I guess I need to decide if I want to make a sleeper and play with some speed or just make a custom cruiser I am leaning towards a cruiser since it only has 58k on it So any input or pics would really help me decide
I think the buckets and floor shift would be so cool. Good luck whichever way you decide to go. Obviously, keep us all updated.
I had to go custom. IMO the Rat Rod look should be saved for a more vintage looking vehicle. I agree on ditching the blue, especially if its leather, the only thing uglier then Blue leather is Red. I like my Tan leather interiors much more then any other color, 2nd choice is Black and then Grey. In velour, I don't mind any color, weird, I know. I love the looks of SilverFox's interior, that blue in the fabric really sets it off nice!
Andy's got a nice 1996 Caprice ex-ghost car. The dash instruments are red IIRC. But the biggest obstacle are the Air Bag systems underneath. I would have thought that there'd be a ton of room under the dash, but it's packed tight with widgets and plumbing. Here's some really neat stuff. Just prep yourself for a lot of wiring strategy. Label every wire following the best wiring diagrams you can get, including Connector IDs. You could go retro! http://www.nordskogperformance.net/product.php?productid=18646 Make your own: http://www.nordskogperformance.net/product.php?productid=18587&cat=10&page=1 http://www.nordskogperformance.net/home.php?cat=11 Or pick and choose: http://www.nordskogperformance.net/home.php?cat=7 I'd go fabric. Buckets and Floor shifter for sure. Mainly because a custom dash won't come with a gearshif display. When I swapped my stock Fairmont dash for the Mustang, I lost the slushomatic gear selector. I'd have to reinstall the old dash to sell the car - safety certificate required. I don't know how you feel about carbon fiber dash and trim, but it does help to focus your attention on the readouts from the gauges. Whatever you do with the upholstery, get a good shop or take a community college evening course to DIY and rent an industrial machine to stitch it up yourself. That's my nickel's worth.
Interior I got covered.....http://www.customstitchin.com/hotrods1/hotrods4.html Take a look at some of those....insane work....plus my best friend works there, so I kinda have the hook up for anything I can not do myself.... I am back and forth between interiors, I like the tweed/leather mix, with a little retro mixed with a little new....kinda in the middle.....not total old school but I love the custom look as well here are the guages I was looking at.... http://www.jegs.com/p/Auto-Meter/Auto-Meter-American-Muscle-Gauges/1167187/10002/-1
Wild! I see why you want some input. Its like too many candies to pick from. Your pal's shop has imagination.
yeah some of the designs are mine lol........ I think I know what I want, but, I like both ways so much I dont really know....the old school look would def keep cost down cause there is more I can do myself
I voted for the modern look. The 90's b-body is like a spaceship. I don't see it as rat-rod kind of thing. I mean I have, and it's been done, badly for the most part.
yeah you can kinda go a little over board with the look, I mean the body is so round and smooth that it almost needs to be done on the inside as well.....so we will see
...geez....dont do anything that cheapens the luxury of the car.... Blackies point is on point....old cars suit cheap sh-t....not luxury cars
HAHA my car was 750 bucks....either way I go it will look classy and will be done right....dont ya worry about that!
I think I have to agree with the majority. I remember when this body style first came out. (Not the wagon, but the sedan) I couldn't believe a "cop car" could be associated with this big "Shamu" style. Chevrolet definitely pulled it off. The 95-96 models had the LT 1's that just screamed. Anyway, sorry to go off on another subject, but I would go with the modern SS styling. Just my 2 cents. Cutter's Custom Stitchin', Inc....... A++++++++++++++ Beautiful work!!!!!!!
Where IS Amp??? THAT'S what I would like to know. Shortly after helping me take delivery on my wagon he posted a few times and we PM'd a few times and then he just up and disappeared. I hope he's OK! Even if he sold his wagon and bought another Pony he is certainly still welcome here and I, for one, would like to hear that he is OK.
