My '66 Ford Country Sedan has seat belts for four. I'd like to install middle belts in the front and back bench seats. Anyone here done this or have center seatbelts already? What I'm wondering is if I can piggyback on the floor bolts that are already holding the existing seat belts, or if I'll need to fab up new mounts. What I mean is this: For the front belts that are there now, there is a large bolt on either side of the driveline tunnel that anchors one half of the seat belt to the floor. I'd be mounting the center belt using those same bolts, too. Opinions appreciated. Thanks!
Mark, Every 3 belt bech seat car I've owned they were bolted up as you describe, middle belt bolted down to the same drivers/passenger side.
Just be sure to use the longer shoulder bolts; usually the single anchor shoulder is too short to add a second belt anchor without bottoming out on the double anchor plates and belt material.
Yup, should be smooth...... I guess I never thought about ancour lenght ( were they different?).... I've never put seat belts in, I've allways removed the middle one when I install bucket seats
All of my experience is with GM belt attachments, but you might find this helpful: The inboard anchor locations (where two anchors are bolted to the same anchor location) take a shoulder bolt. Outboard bolts usually don't have the shoulder. Here is a pic of the standard bolt for the outboard retractor or anchor mount (locations where no anchor rotation is required): Here is a shoulder bolt for locations with double belt anchors (belt anchor rotation required). This is typically used for the double inboard belt anchors:
