And you find those 3G alternators in Taurus/Sable, early Windstars, and a couple other modern Fords. They are visually distinguishable from the 2G by the fact the cooling fan is internal. You want to find at least a 90 amp, so measure between mount holes, it should be 8.25(?)" center to center. Higher output ones are 9+" center to center.
alright, I found an Autometer electric gauge and the sensor fits my stock loction perfect. Got all the wires installed and now I need a switched hot wire to connect my + side to. Usually I go to the fusebox for this . However the fusebox on this year Falcon is built on to the headlight switch so the switch must be removed to gain access. Removal is a pain .Before I do this does anyone have any ideas as to a switched hot in a more convienient location ? Thanks
On those? Not really. And you do not want to tap in to the ignition hot lead underhood. How 'original' do you want this car?
I'd tap it at the ignition switch itself. If it has to be kept original, an adapter harness to plug in between the original and the switch can be easilly fabricated
Don't need original , fuse box is on the headlight switch which has to be removed to get to it . Radio lead is dead. I guess I wil remove the ignition switch and tap on to it. I was hoping something under the hood had 12v switched . Thanks
Sorry about that , Chief . Finally got my gauge installed using a wire from the stud on back of the ignition switch. Thanks for all the help and the spell check.
Happy to oblige. I could use learning some decent dance steps for a change. Never having watched the movie "Dirty Dancing" also helps
