Beauteous. You've inspired me, I have to go through all the models kits I've been picking up at flea markets and garage sales over the years out and see what I can do this winter. New models are expensive, I couldn't believe how what used to be $1.98 plastic car models are 25-30 bucks now when I was at the hobby shop a while back. If I could sell mine for that much each I'd go buy a real car. I have to show off the one wagon model I built a few years ago, it has really open wheelwells.
i wanted to build an el camino out of a Buick roadmaster hearse. sort of a classy gentlemans pickup truck. but they dont make a Buick hearse body ( a little extra length.)
Thanks guys. I have always been surprised that noone in the after market has come out with a conversion kit for the open wheel look of the last Caprice/SS sedans. In '97, I came close to buying a 'clean', '94 Caprice Estate, all white with a grey leather interior and, if I recall correctly around 30,000mi on it. They were asking $16K at the time, not bad. The Impala being my goal. Took friends with me and we went on a test ride. A few plastic pieces on the passenger side were lose as my friends observed. The dealer gave me a gas card to fill up on the drive and I got to looking the car over. I noticed a big gap above the rear passenger door and thought my friend had opened it a bit. then I realized the rocker panel wasn't straight. Both right side doors appeared to be pushed in a bit at the B pillar. it was very evident the car had been T-boned, and cleaned up as best they could then put on the lot. When I confronted them with it and tried to get them to drop the price by half,(cause I'm betting they got the car for nearly '0' at auction) they got pissed at me and said I didn't know what I was talking about. That 'loose' plastic inside, was also cracked and falling off in places, they didn't even replace it with new stuff and I didn't know wht I was talking about? I think they were pissed that I caught them being dishonest. Thing is, I said if they'd just sell it to me for what they had invested, I'd buy it but the guy was so arrogant, He said they'd get their 16K. "These cars are hot right now." They weren't, not yet. Some sucker probably bought it tho. I'm sure it is interesting on rainy days...
The Impala SS Studio had a kit that helped you open up the rear wheel openings on the '91-'96 GM B body wagons. I'm not sure if they are still in business, they used to be on ebay, but there store is closed now. Mike
Mark, sounds to me like it had frame damage and any legitimate dealer is obligated by law to disclose that, however, it seems like that guy was anything but a "legitimate" dealer, to say the least.
Agreed. I did report it to the higher ups. I don't know if the frame was bent or not, the car tracked well and drive nicely over all. My thoughts were that a truck, something with higher ground clearance hit it near the B-pillar and they pulled it out rather than replace it. The doors closed with the right thunk but they were clearly out of alignment. The rocker may have been, for the most part, undamaged and the doors created the illusion of damage down there. The roof appeared straight and true too so it was hard to assess how bad the wreck would have been. I do believe the guy, probably the manager, said the frame had been checked and cleared. I still think they should have given full disclosure, that was what really ticked me off.
