Wow, I hope a wagon fan gets this one and not a derbier! Its a no-reserve auction and it scares me to think it may sell for a low price, which would mean a higher chance of it getting smashed in a derby!

I have a soft spot for these, especially this one, because this car is identical to the one that can be seen in the 1971 movie "Duel" starring Dennis Weaver. There is a scene where he is sideways in the road in his red 71' Plymouth Valiant and a wagon like this one comes toward him and swerves to miss him. Its even the same color.. who knows, it could be the same car! :)

This one has some rust, but nothing that cannot be repaired. Its also nice optioned... A/C, 3rd seat, luggage rack. It does lack tilt wheel (which mine has), but it does have the power gate option (which mine lacks). Had I more money/space or did not have my 72', I would BUY this car! I hope a wagon fan does. I would be crushed if someone smashed this car in a derby.

This is listed by Fred in Waterloo, NY.

He is the wagon guru of the north.

He mainly specializes in B-Body GM wagons but will sell anything worth saving or the unusual.

He puts on WagonFest every year in July.

If your ever looking for a wagon, this is the guy to see!

    Nice Guy!

OMG, I hope somebody saves this car!! I feel it is so close to my reach too. Waterloo is VERY close to my home town and I will be there for Xmas. Ugh! If I could be there sooner I'd buy it in a second.

    derbies

You'd think, people would get smart and buy up big body MBZ's and BMW's for demo-derbies.:)Since they're supposed to be so safe to be in during accidents...But they don't,which probably means they won't get smart enough to figure out that cars with trunks do better than wagons:banghead3:...I've seen a few demo-derbies,I know.(y)

It's called credit crunch. Don't think it will be derby wagon, looking at the current crash sites the economy is affecting them too, looks like they aren't to willing to pay top dollar to just crash it.

    Cheers Dyna

PS: If you have the money this is THE time to buy, prices has gone done and they will for sure go up when things are better again. It was the same with my 90 Estate Wagon he lowered the price quite a bit too...

    demo-derbier?

demo-derby;demoliton derby.A type of "car race",where the cars ram into each other, over and over, until only one car is left rolling around. Also known as destruction derby.Even the winner looks like a crushed up beer can on the side of the road, when it's over. They, the demo-derbiers,usually pick what we would consider nice old cars to "compete" in these "races".The reputations of the cars that are usually used, however,is that they were dangerous to be in-rickety pieces of junk, when they were brand new. So,wht aren't demo-derbiers picking cars with reputations of safety and durability?Like MBZ's and BMW's and Toyotas and Hondas.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

Hey Taranau, they are starting to simply out of necessity. There are only so many 1970s era "lead sleds" around. So they have created compact and subcompact car categories. They are of course 1980s and 90s model cars. They should do minivans, there has to be a lot of older minivans from 1984 to present that deserve to be smashed all to hell.

    them smaller cars

About ten years ago,one of the cable sports networks was running shows about rollover contests...Contestants would get their cars up to about 40 mph.,get one side of their car to go up a ramp, and see how many times they could roll it.Most contestants were using Honda,Toyota and VW twodoor hatchbacks.Better for rolling,it would seem,as the one guy who tried to roll an early 80's Gran Fury just couldn't do it.They even let him try an extra time,to no avail...It's good to know there are other classes of demo-derby now. Here in Southern California, car racing is socio-politically incorrect,as it makes lots of noises that disturb neighbours and innocent bystanders.
Two race tracks have been shut down, for that reason. The Saugus Speedway(co-star of many movies and TV shows)was shut down after a developer put up a housing project nearby, and sold them to people who thought they were moving to the middle of nowhere(and peace and quiet). The historically famous Ascot Speedway was closed down, after nearby neighbours(in the next door cemetery, apparently)complained of noise.Although, the Fourth Of July Fireworks Show that had one big blue star land on the nearby freeway may have had something to do with it too.:yahoo:

Damn, if what you say is true, then it makes me glad I live in the heart of NASCAR country. That I am fan of motorsports mind you, but that kind of NIMBYism is just plain un-American.

    nimbys

Most of this attitude is centered in the Greater Los Angeles Area.People have moved into neighbourhoods near airports and then complained to their city councilmen that there's planes flying overhead all the time:slap:.Moved in next to Disneyland and complained that there's a fireworks show every night.Move to Los Angeles and then complain about traffic, crime and smog."Isn't there something somebody can do about that?" Yeah, you can go live somewhere else.:thumbs2:
My wife an I are working on getting us out of this place.Move somewhere a little less hectic...In the meantime,we have Irwindale Raceway.:bouncy:It's just a little further away. And in the middle of a huge industrial complex. So,I don't think we'll have to worry about the neighbours complaining, anytime soon.

    ^^^^

Inwindale isn't Ascot, unfortunately, but it's all we got.......
At least I was able to go to Ascot before they tore it down.

What's on the property now, you ask? Why Insurance Auto Auctions - a salvage auto auction.

    ascot/irwindale

Went to Ascot when I was a kid.My dad took me.Only went a handfull of times...Have only been to Irwindale twice.Compared to memories of Ascot and several dozen visits to Saugus,Irwindale was a bit of a letdown.Maybe, because it's new,it seemed too clinical, without character.Perhaps when it's aged and worn,it'll have some charm.
