When he's ready for it, you'll have to throw him a "Sweat 16" b-day party.

I went to the store the other day and ran into a fellow who had the sibling to my wife's car. It turned out that the owner came out just as I was leaving, so I stopped and we visited for a while. He was a very nice fellow who loved his Freestyle. It was fun.

Here is his car, ours is in the line behind it, to the left of the photo

After our visit I snapped a quick photo and then was on my way. IMG_6230.JPG

It's crazy, but I ran into him again. This time it was across the street from where I work (which ironically is where our business used to be located) I just happened to be driving Jennifer's car, so I swung in even though I was in a hurry to get where I was going. Can't miss an opportunity for a fun pic right?

I had to come home for lunch on Friday and Jennifer was at the grocery store. It was warm so I decided it would be nicer to bring the Fury into the garage out of the sun. Instead of backing it into it's usual spot I thought "you know what? I'm gonna park riiiiiiiiiiight here" and took the spot Jennifer's car usually resides in.
Of course she got home before I left. She parked in the driveway. Didn't say a word about me stealing her spot!

Well, I had another Dr's appointment at U.W. Medicine in Seattle and it just so happened to be on the Friday of labor Day weekend. We decided to make a mini vacation out of it and made reservations to stay in Lynnwood for four nights.

We left Thursday afternoon and were grateful to be out of the smoke that's filled our valley for a couple of weeks.

On Friday we went to the Alderwood Mall and visited the LEGO store. Caleb was so excited he could hardly contain himself. After we left he said "well, now I can cross that off my bucket list"

Friday afternoon I headed into down town Seattle for my appointment. The building was on a street dominated by modern mid-rise buildings full of offices for different health specialist. As I was entering the building my appointment was in I noticed that across the street there was a building that was completely out of place.

It's Hardwick's Hardware. Turns out after 88 years in business at this location they are closing up shop and moving. It sounds like the building has been sold to the University and is going to be bulldozed to make room for another modern mid-rise building. :(
I decided I had to go in. So after my appointment I moved the car out front of the hardware store and went in to check things out.

If you're into old tools and old architecture and old signs and old display cases and old phones and coolers and things like that like I am, then you would be fascinated by this place.

The next day Nathaniel was feeling a little under the weather, so he and his mom stayed at the Hotel and Caleb and I went down to Edmonds to check things out. It has a great little "walkable" downtown as well as a great public beach right next to the ferry terminal. There are some pretty amazing views of the Olympics across the water.

Thankfully Nathaniel was feeling better in the evening, so we had a nice picnic dinner in Veteran's Park.

Saturday was my birthday, so we went out to eat. After we parked the car and we were walking to the restaurant I looked back and was taken aback by the sunset. It was spectacular. Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice.

The next morning while their Mother got ready, the boys and I went to a local park that was all decked out for the Labor Day weekend.

Later that day we went to Marysville to meet my Sister and Brother-in-law and their two boys for a picnic.

    IMG_9345.JPG

We had a great time. It felt good to get out and do something, together as a family.

Hardwick's going out of business? Say it isn't so! Grandpa Len shopped there back in the '40s when Dad was in high school during and after the war. That phone still has its number--372. If I had known that was happening, I would've stopped in; I haven't been there since the late '70s.
