I had such an experience, when I tried using teflon tape for sealing a hot water valve. It held for awhile. I suppose, it was due to how metal contracts, after cooling off that the joint began leaking. it took a few weeks to start, though. Hemp wool is supposed to be 100% reliable. Any plumber who claims teflon tape to be best for water joints should go hang a roll of it from his moobs
Sound to me like you wound the tape in the wrong direction and cut the tape when screwing the valve on. Been using it for decades and never had a problem. Still, regular pipe dope is the way to go.
I wound it against the tightening direction. But, probably didn't use enough of it. If you tighten the joint and the loosen it, even just a little, it'll certainly fail. I see Teflon tape used religiously for gas connections. But, have never noticed it on water plumbing joints
there are also different grades of Teflon tape. blue monster is a good thick Teflon tape and i am very satisfied with its performance
Agree, buy cheap you get what you paid for, and it's not expensive to begin with. Apply in direction of thread as mentioned, a few good wraps and there should be no problem, in doubt wrap it a couple more times. Never have had a drip from our washing machine, dish washer, and toilets going to main water line. And why would you loosen a tight connection unless you would be removing it, that's just asking for problems?
No, you want to wrap it in the opposite direction of the thread which would be clockwise, when the opening is facing you. Or do you have left-hand threaded fittings over there? Mine is white and vintage 1978. It still feels as fresh as the day I bought it
if lefty is loosy, and righty tighty, I'd wrap it the right way, the way it's going together And yes, mechanical fittings come in each and or both............ Done many a project over the years that if you didn't have a option of reverse thread, you would not be able to mechanically put "it" together, most cases due to fire risk = no soldered or torching, use pipe dope. I find it impossible to believe Germany who invented this stuff for the most part would not have the same. Suck to connections together with one fitting, comes in all sizes and forms and options, brass, copper, cast, alum....
it isn't easy to explain how to properly hold the roll of tape but you wrap with the threads holding the roll with the tape coming off the bottom of the roll turning in a clockwise direction as viewed from the end you are wrapping when you do it correct you will know as the roll will maintain nice easy tension on the tape. 6 or 7 wraps works for me
Maybe, we should wrap some tape around Fannie's head at eyeball level, so that she stops hallucinating every time she looks up at ceilings
Wait, wait, wait, the original post was, eh-hem... some provocative lighting...and you guys are talking about tape?!?! I’m confused...does no one want to mention the giant set of knockers on the ceiling?!? Way to go Fannie for staying abreast of the original post
Break out the tape for number two. It's time to teach these habitual hallucinators and cat pee sniffers to keep looking down
