Hows it going everyone... 59 pontiac catalina safari wagon barn find. Been sitting since 1987 in Minnesota and only used for family camping. Original 389 with only 35000 miles on it. Got some body cancer. Couple of floors need replacing, but mostly solid. Just me working on it so its gonna go slow.
Welcome MrFriday! Looks to be a great project, what's the plan for her? Back ground story? AND WE LOVE PICTURES! I hope you find the forum both interesting and helpful, with some zaniness mixed in! Again welcome and enjoy your stay!.....Longroofs Rule!
Welcome. There are a ton of Pontiac guys on here, so advice will not be in short supply. Good luck on her, and she’s a good looking car.
Welcome aboard MrFriday! Looks like a great score. As wagoninsane said, we love photos and we always love to hear the stories behind the car.
Thanks guys... I don't have much information on the back ground. What I do know is that this was somebody's family camping wagon. They'd tow a camper with this thing on trips around Minnesota... Going through it, I've found an oil filter relocation, with a huge filter, a really old fashioned tow brake set up under the dash, a fully welded tow hitch, a block heater, and an aftermarket tranny cooler. I have a feeling that every mile she ever drove was well earned. So far I've just done basics, poking and prodding. Seeing what's there, what not. What she needs vs what I got and what I can do now vs what I need to have done later. The good; Motors free, low miles Interiors there-ish Headliner is perfect Everything turns on except radio (could be speakers as it does light up) Glass is good Electric rear window works All the chrome is there Frame is solid so far A/c blows?! Power steering! No major damage The bad; Drivers side rear quarter Small rust spots Passenger side floor pan front Rear door doesn't open yet Some frayed wiring Hoses, belts, carpets All in all, very typical of a car thats been sitting for 34 years... Oh and the funnest part... it had about 3/4 of a tank when parked. Sooo, gotta pull that out and get it cleared out. Yum yum. Pictures. Yeah, yeah I'll get to it.
Not to be nosey, but that’s kinda how we roll around here. That ‘59 looks like it’s in good company. Is that a ‘65-‘66 Pontiac next to the ‘59? Yours, or what’s it’s story. You can’t show us a wagon around here without the Gladys Kravitz crowd wanting more info. Lol
It is a 66. From what I've been told it is bought and paid for and on its way down under. That one's body is a little bit rougher in the rear, with home made aluminum patch panels riveted on. Nicer interior than mine and same 389 I think. Might be a 400. Not 100% on it.
