    Hello,
I am a Middle Tennessee area wagon owner. My current project is a recent acquisition from my grandfather. It is his 1979 Datsun 510 Wagon that he has had since 1980. It has just over 127k miles a nearly flawless body (does need fresh paint) and working A/C. It's sat for several years but once jumped, it started right up. It is not yet road worthy as I have had to replace ball joints, brake hoses and am waiting on new tie rods wheels (as it's hard to find tires to fit 13" wheels) and new tires. can't wait to start driving it. Thanks,
I'm torn over the wood grain. as it's not in horrible shape, but the car need fresh paint and there are some spots in the wood grain that are dried out and cracked. thinking about painting the car a nice pewter metallic and using a blackwood wood grain applique that i've found.

    Welcome!

If it were me I would leave the paint and body alone and slam it on the ground!

Of course I am almost alone on the going low idea

I always liked those little woodies! Good luck with the color/woodgrain scheme, whatever you decide.:)

:Welcome:, Oh Man, what a cool little wagon and ultra rare because of the wood. It's your wagon so it's really up to you as to what it turns into but faded paint, cracked wood...if it were mine I'd perserve.

Just one question, the frot fender is missing some wood, was the a emblim or what?

Great wagon, I'd love to own it !

    Thanks guys,
I may very well try to preserve it, the worst is the front right fender is a bit banged up (very minor) but for some reason has oxidized far worse than any other part. and the worst of the cracking is on the tail gate, so a close wood grain match wouldn't be too noticibly different since it would not be directly next to another section. The missing section is from where someone swiped the badges, i may hunt down some of the earlier 510 badges which looked alot better. though the wood grained bumper trim may have to go. pulled one piece off already that had nearly fallen off anyway.
I have a Dodge Dart as well that had been my great grandmother's. It's a 4door, but had only 36k miles (in '94 when i got it) and had been garage kept. the paint still shined and the interior looked brand new (until you touched it to see how badly dry-rotted it was), but the trim was the first to go. no bumper trim or badges, even pulled the drip rail trim and filled the side marker holes. considered shaving the handles, but instead i think i'd like to swap them for the '70s corvette handles as they would nest perfectly in the channel at the base of the windows.
part of me wants to go that route, i've seen some very sleek 510s, but the other part makes me want to keep it a woody and just put on some nicer wheels [IMG] like these.
