Hey guys and gals. A few weeks ago I finally fulfilled a life long dream and bought a big American cruiser! I'm now the proud owner of a 1973 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Mechanically she's in very good order and pretty rust free although I have started to find that there are many electrical gremlins as well as the usual perished seals (I'll be creating a separate post about that later). It wasn't the smoothest collection process. Picked it up and had a 90mile drive home, stopped into a petrol station only to find out they didn't give me the key to the petrol cap and that the battery was completely dead (would only run on the alternator) and required a jump start. 5 hours later we finally managed to work the cap off and fill it up as well as get a jump start off a booster pack with enough juice to crank the engine enough to start. Then on the drive home found that the interior lights wouldn't turn off and as it was dark outside it effectively turned all my windows into mirrors and being on the 'wrong side of the car' made for some sketchy lane changes. The only light that didn't function on the car was the bulb over the speedo so I couldn't actually tell how fast I was going and was relying on other people driving the speed limit to avoid speed cameras. She's home now though and I'm steadily working through all the issues to make her perfect again. I look forward to speaking with you all in the future.
Welcome aboard the wagon train Dippydocus! Sounds like quite the adventure! But that's part of the fun
That is a very memorable first story for you and your new wagon. Hope to hear more as get the the kinks worked out.
