Hello fellow station wagon owners. this is my 1st post on here. I have a '55 chevy four door wagon. It is a driver that we really enjoy. It has a 350/350 trans, power disc brakes, cpp power steering, and many other changes. I'm currently looking for a 700-r4 to put in it.
We just returned from the Ocean City, Md. car show, about 200 miles each way, and the wagon ran flawlessly down and back (even though I worry about every noise I hear)

:Welcome:Don. Don't worry, 55 Chevys are supposed to make weird noises! At least that's what I've been told.
Check into a 2004R before you do the swap. You can use your old drive shaft and yolk, and it is an easier fit. Besides, the gearing is more street friendly.

:Welcome:to the wagon train, racer. Sure would love to see your wagon if you have pix!:thumbs2:

X's 2 what CatModelT said about the 200-4R. A better choice for your wagon for many reasons.:yup:

The TH200's were junk....the 200-4R's are NOT. They can be built to haul 1000HP. The big guys use them in PLACE of the 700-R4. It is fallacy to think that the TH200 and 200-4R are even closely related. I ran them behind all my 455 wagons with a few tweaks without ever a problem. I could go on, but, it would be pointless if you think, for whatever misguided reason, the 200-4R is junk. I have heard others knock the 200-4R until they wanted someone to build them a stout OD tranny....then they found that the pros use the 200-4R. I guess you can tell that I bristle when people knock that tranny. I can tell you that you will see many of them at the track, which YOU should know, Rev.:yup:

Yes, 200's are junk. Dynaflows and Powerglides are junk. Unless built up for racing. But 2004R's are great transmissions. Listen to silverfox. He is not as dumb as he (we) look!:rofl2:

:biglaugh:Yeah, Rev...I just reread my post and I think I came on a little strong. FIRST of all...I wrote that late at night when I was tired and wasn't feeling well. Secondly...the 200-4R has taken a bad wrap for reasons I mentioned and many others so I defend it when I can. The OP was looking for a 700-R4, an OD tranny, so I thought you were addressing the 200-4R rather than the TH200. Around here there are a LOT of guys that run street/strip cars and run the 200-4R OD with a few mods for better mileage on the street. Including me back in my "built up 455 in the 80's B body wagon days." :yup:
In any case, I apologize for sounding like I was slamming you personally when I was just defending the 200-4R. I realize that you are, and have been, a good friend to me here at the forum and I would never knowingly disrespect you or any other member of the forum for their opinions.
