Admittance of ignorance. I feel I should already know these things. But alas I do not. I wish to learn about basic engine anatomy. Still a broad subject to cover I know. I read a lot on here and find myself wondering what it is you are talking about. Sometimes I can piece together the purpose of the part(s) but in the end I find myself lacking... Basic/General Engine Anatomy 101. Thank you in advance. -X
And hotrod magazines like Street Rodder, Hot Rod, Custom Classic Trucks, Cars & Parts, etc. all at your bookstores and grocery stores. Been reading them since the early "Little Pages." Lookin for cars or parts? Hemmings Motor News might have a few things for sale!
But the internet takes more time and they use big words and then I get distracted. I will start out reading about a gasket and end up on quantum physics or dutch chocolate... You're right though.
Xavier, This is actually a pretty good introduction: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine It includes some nice animation that shows how a 4-cycle (Otto) engine operates.
If you don't know your quantum physics you don't know diddly about putting gaskets under dutch chocolate! But what does Holland have to do with this? And whatever you do don't admit this------Admittance of ignorance. Your local library has many books on automobiles and engines of all types. Remember? That big building filled with books!
The library here is just fine. I have seen bigger libraries in towns half the size of Joplin. Joplin's library is a bit of a joke.
X you are in the wrong section. Get out of the humor isle and look for automotive. You only need a few books, not the entire library. While there look up celebrations and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR with Z.
When I was just a boy, my older brother was a mechanic at the local Ford dealership, so I had access to his old tech books and studied them for hours and hours when I was a teenager. I still have his nice, huge, vintage Chilton manual covering American cars spanning @ 1964 through 1974 (including all the muscle cars of course!) Needless to say, that is nothing compared to what we can now access online at the press of a button! Anyway, here's a couple of animations showing basically what happens inside an engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aATDsYVVcRM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2y77vEKorI&feature=related
