someone please tell me where and what type of deflecter to mount on my roadmaster wagon, i'm really not getting any fumes that bad , but a little is a lot. and my pipes are straight out of the back.[i will change them if i really have to] further more my ass end stays filthy.and if its not asking to much, how about an illistration on where the exhaust fumes go at speed or how the air travels over the car. thanks a ton........................ed
I think you will have to move the pipes, I'm afraid. there is a reason every wagon out there has a different tail pipe than the sedan/coupe counterpart. The suction back there is guaranteed to suck fumes from straight pipes across the tailgate of a wagon, and even a small leak in the weatherstripping is dangerous.
It's actually called "station wagon" effect by aerodynamicists and is caused by a low pressure area at the rear of the vehicle, look it up. X2 on changing the exhaust, best place is side outlets behind the tires and extended out past the quarters a little, or extend your present tailpipes about six feet feet and hang orange flags off them. My former '71 Vista had a roof spoiler and it didn't do a thing for the low pressure, it may keep the rear glass from getting dusty and snow off of it in the winter some. I was driving it one day and a unfortunate bird flew in front of me then went under the car, had the tailgate window open and tons of feathers were sucked into the car through the opening.
i think i;ll leave my pipes there because i;ve allready notched out the roll pan, but i will blank them off and exit the tailpipe in the stock loation. no one will even notice.
my exhaust exits out the back i dont get fumes. the dust thing....i keep a california duster in the car for that reason.
