Fresh new old guy here. I’m searching high and low for a replacement fuel tank for my 1962 Country sedan. The current tank was damaged when the axle housing broke on the highway. There are listings everywhere that show “Country Sedan” and then it says “except wagon”. Fairly sure that the Country Sedan was only a wagon.
First of all, good save from a bad situation. Second, you're right - Country Sedan (and Country Squire) were only wagons. I have a 1963 Country Sedan and fuel tanks for these are scarcer than hen's teeth I am seeing. Sorry I don't have any options for you - you may have to resort to having one custom built. When you can, hop over to the Welcome Wagon and introduce yourself, and also post other pictures of your wagon. We all love pictures around here.
Ebay is where I would start. Question, is your tank unique to the 62? Google the nationwide junkyard search app. There are a few. Good luck.
Keeping in mind that I’m not here to throw anyone under any busses. Yet. eBay is where I found “Country Sedan, except wagon” even [insert leading tank manufacturer] had the listing wrong and a phone call to their customer service team was fruitless. I’m considering making one myself as one of my job requirements is that I can weld almost anything.
The 1962 Service manuals are used for the 1963's, with a supplement. So I would venture to say that a 62 tank is the same as a 63. Not that will help much, since both are over 60 years old, but it should broaden the search. Does your 62 fill from behind the license plate, or on the drivers side of the quarter panel?
Hi! With your welding skills you might consider making one...or see if you can find one out of some other wagon and cut and or section it and make it fit...welcome! Btw
First question is the tank the same as a 2 or 4 door car of the same type, cause if it is it will be much easier to find and may be reproduced new. My Valiant wagon is like that hope there is someone here that can answer that question.
