Thought I would share how our petrol pricing works DOWN here ;) in Australia.
This is a typical cycle over a couple of days. I'll post in $AUD & Litres with an attempt to convert to $US & Gallons. Hope my maths is correct

    (i) Wednesday morning Regular unleaded $1.03 /ltr (or $3.04US / gal)
(ii) Thursday morning Regular unleaded $1.22 /ltr (or $3.60US /gal)

This is at the same BP service station. Are prices as volatile in your area?
Also, are we expensive or cheap in comparison?

Love to see your example of fuel prices.....:)

Prices in Southern California right now about $2.60/gal I believe (haven't filled up in over a week). Prices are volatile - they were up in the $4.00/gal range last summer. I don't think we get as drastic a change overnight, though. They might raise it anywhere from 2 to 5 cents at a time. Lots of competition here. you could have 3 or 4 gas stations on one corner all competing for your business. More often than not, when one changes its prices, the others follow.....

Here in Canada, we're around the 91.9 to 98.9 cents per litre range ($3.12 to $3.36 per US Gallon.

About three - four weeks ago, fuel was at $2.09 a gal. Two weeks ago, it went to $2.22, that night filling up the car before I dropped it off at work ( I work as a limousine driver), fuel went up to $2.57. When the three day weekend came up, stations went up to $2.79. Now its around $2.56.

These are all prices from Shell Gas and around the northwest subs of Chicago.

Isn't it funny how a tanker sinking or a tornado in the Gulf of Mexico bumps up the price of oil, but long weekend gouging never gets tagged?

    that pricing stuff

It was in my local newspaper, and on that Yahoo News too,I believe...There is a glut of oil globally and demand is down because of the bad global economy. That usually means the price goes down on gasoline at the pump...BUT,oil producing nations and oil companies are presently hoarding gasoline/oil supplies,in hopes that the economy will miraculously rebound later this year...They are squeezing the hose to restrict flow, making the local gas stations raise prices, just to make a living...That said, here in SoCal,my wife and I have noticed that diesel fuel prices have dropped. At several stations diesel is cheaper than the 87 regular...Now,some stations are still way out of touch, less than a mile from one of the cheap diesel stations is one selling it at $3.79---about a dollar more than the average price...

Yep, I agree. Tanker sinkin.....reminds me of Superman III.

When Superman rips a hole in a tanker in the middle of the Atlantic. A few min later, there was part where ppl where waiting in line. Some fela cuts off another guy in line waiting for fuel. One was in a tan '79-'81ish Mercury Marquis and the other in a blue Marquis wagon.

Right now we are at $2.36.9 for Shell regular and I have a feeling it will be up to 3.00.9 a gallon before long. I'm going to say goodbye to my wife's GMC payments and get her something a little smaller in size like a Ford LTD II wagon. and myself too since my truck is paid for a 390 drinks gas like I drink iced tea.

***Warning, this is gonna be long winded***

I live in SW New York state, as far south and west as you an get and still be in NY, Pennsylvania is just 1 mile west or 2 miles south. Here in this chithole of a state, gas is $2.62 for 87 octane, If I head over the boarder its $2.21 for the same gas. Same goes for sales tax, here in NY its 8.75%, PA is 6%, Smokes are $8.22 for name brands in NY and $5,81 in PA. Now they can't seem to understand why this state is going under, why would anyone in their right mind buy anythin here in NY when PA is just a couple miles away and everything can be had at 30%+ less in cost?

I buy almost nothing IN NY and everything I possibly can in PA. Even our electric, National Grid, puts the screws to us. My average bill during the winter is $200+ a month and in the summer $150 a month. Just over the boarder I have friends who have electric baseboard heater, vs my propane heat, electric hot water heaters vs my propane and they have airconditioning vs my open windows ad their highest electric bill in the winter is in the $70's and inthe 50's in the summer.

I HATE NEW YORK! As soon as this dump is paid off in Febuary, we are gonna look for property in PA an keep this place o ren out to pay our mortage on a diffeent place where everything is cheaper!

$1.07 a litre Canadian a couple days ago on the island, went up from $.99. Gas is cheaper on the main land and for some reason cheaper the further up island you go. Last summer we were over $1.50 a litre.

Wow, some great cars you have there. The early LTD's down here always had a prestigious look about them!!.
Seems our Aussie fuel & LPgas prices are very similar to Canada (allowing for the $ exchange).

Sometimes,it doesn't take a tankership sinking,it's true...One time, there was a fairly minor fire at the refinery in Torrance, about $100,000 in damage, most of it to a truck, nobody hurt, and the price of gas went up.A nickel a gallon that time,if I remember right...Last winter, there was a horrendous 12 vehicle pile-up(1)at the bottom of the hill, coming out of the Grapevine{a mountain pass on I-5}and(2)in an underpass that goes under I-5 itself. One of the vehicles was a full double-trailer tanker truck.Which caught fire, exploded and burned for quite some time.I forget how many people died.A bunch...The big news story was whether or not there were going to have to be major repairs to the 10-12 lanes of freeway above(no,as it turned out)If the main way in and out of LA was going to be blocked off for a long time. While that was the big news story, the price of gas in LA went up ten cents a gallon.Just as soon as the freeway was proclaimed safe, the price went down...
