A Field Guide to Gas Stations in Texas.... http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/library/pubs/bus/env/fieldguide_gas_stations_.pdf
Very cool! There are a lot of those old small-town gas station still standing here in The Lone Star State! I love exploring old places in my Roady. Here is the bustling metropolis of Evant Texas. I love just getting in the car and exploring. ROAD TRIP!!! Look at these views! Gorgeous out here! I sure wish the greedy oil criminals would bring the prices back down. I MISS my road trips! About can't afford them anymore! -Mike
Thanks for the link KK, bookmarked it for later reading. Lots of interesting sites in TX for sure. I remember visiting Ennis, TX on biz. Old cotton town. They had an old bank building converted into a restaurant. The bar was in the old vault room, neat place to visit.
Ennis has grown up a lot. It's just down I-45, south of Dallas and north of Corsicana, where I went to college. A lot of people that work in Dallas have bought homes here and commute, it's a lot cheaper than living in DFW. The best two things about Ennis are the fact that it's home to a great drag racing track, and is also right near an awesome 5-screen drive-in movie theater. http://www.galaxydriveintheatre.com/ http://texasmotorplex.com/ It's also the town I cut through to get to Lake Tawakoni, which is the best fishing lake in Texas as far as I'm concerned. Fun Stuff! -Mike
Took those taking the back roads from Austin to Dallas, taking Hwy 281 north from Marble Falls. I love the roads less taken! -Mike
Mike. Take your kidz to Big Bend country some weekend. I've seen the tranchulas migrate across the hi-way down there and it's impossible to drive there without squashing ah few when they make their move Rite time ah day the boys can hang it out and raise the water level in the Pacos too. I'm sure Roy Bean did it
On the 2-do list, but that's a LONG haul from Austin. Some friends just rode out there on motorcycles, and it was 1500 miles round trip from Austin. This is a BIG state.
I know how big the Lone Star iz Mike. 820 miles from Orange to "Paso" and about the same from Brownsville to Perryton if yeah can find ah cow path to get you northwest of Wichita Falls! Wife and I lived just out side Oak Hill down 1826 ah tad for 5 years. We did that Big Bend get-around in a Thanksgiving weekend while we were there AND I DID RAISE THE WATER LEVEL OF THE PACOS
