Since I cant log onto Impala SS forum, its up to you guys. I have a lead on (new) 2 1/2" drop spindles for about $350. A car guy told me to stay away from spindles and go with springs do to alignment, clearance, and maybe even brake issues??? Does that sound right? Springs are much cheaper but I think will only drop 1" vs spindles at 2" This is my 92 Roadmaster woody thanks
Spindles are the way to go. It depends on the suspension set-up, but in your typical RWD set-up, it's the type that a spring would simply let the suspension drop/collapse into itself to achieve the drop. However, spindles actually keep mounting points in the correct place for things such as control arms, tie rod ends, etc, and simply relocate the axle. This shot I found was to highlight the difference in OEM GM spindles that could be swapped between models, but you can see how the axle is located at different heights. Spindle is way to go.
I have used springs to drop my B-Body. In the front I have cut off a coil and a half and in the rear I am using G-body springs. It has given me the drop I wanted and the ride isn't bad at all. I wanted more than the Eibachs gave me.
It's possible, but considering the rarity of RWD platforms at the time of your car, I'd guess it's not highly likely. Something like an Impala forum would be the ticket- that, or start Googling. With the popularity of the Impala SS, I'd sure bet someone has already done the hard work. Need to find someone with a Hollander manual..... Gotta be a street rodder on this board that has one.
i dont know but i,ve got dropped spindles on my malibu had em on there for a few years and its driven day in and day out with no problems,,,,the only potential issues would be wheel width and offset,,, other than that i have zero complaints,,,the coil spring option will work too ,,, just adjust the camber and check the toe on the front end and your down the road
