if the speedo was pullin power from the car batery you might have drawn the power from that route to the stero. The only problem with that though is that it would have disappeared completly immediatly, not faded. try checking if it runs on change able batery. my only thought right now. Any one else got an idea?

Also, the speedo's in this era of Chevy are known to go quickly. They don't seem to last long, most people I know that have had them had them go and have had to replace them once or twice.

I second that. The early 90's chevy digital speedometers were bad. My uncle had a 95 caprice sedan and the digital speedometer bit the dust. The speed would only register when it felt like it and you would drive the car 2 blocks and the thing would say that you put 3500 miles on the car.

When I worked for the Volvo/Caddy dealer, some of the 80s and 90s Caddys would come in with the same problem your talking about. This might sound crazy, but most of the techs found that smoker owned cars seemed to have more problems with the dig dash.

I don't know what truth there is behind it but it could be the dash/circuit boards are simply "touchy" with dirt and film, thus acting all funny. So I would think maybe try cleaning the plug in at the dash, before replacing the whole unit first?

    Just my two cents

I watched a few techs use some GM type of electrical contact cleaner where the wiring harness plugs into the dig dash asm. it self.....

If that truly works, I honestly don't know. Pulling the dash in and out, might have just jarred some electrical connections and made it work for a bit longer. What I was told and I can see this with a grain of truth, is that when someone (no offence to anyone that dose), that smokes in a car time and time again, there is a thin film of tar that is being created all over the car inside.

For example, when you don't wash the inside of your windows and there is a thin film on the windows that hazes over a few weeks. Thats dirt in the air, plastic "breathing and sweating" and other inter. products venting to create the film.

The tar in the cigs drys out glues, rubber, vinal, and other products in cars. None the less, the dig dash might be as prone or more so to "enviromental" affects of smoke. The only car I had with one, was my 1996 Lincoln Town Car. It had 166k and bought at 65k, I never had a problem with the dash. Then again, I don't smoke, and I keep all my cars as showroom new as close as I can.

Sorry I could't be of more help....
