The American version of "Top Gear" recently did a comparison of the Pinto, Samurai and Corvair, trying to find the most unsafe vehicle. The Corvair made the Pinto look like a Ferrari!
I'll take a corvair over Ralph Nadir any day. Porsche 911 also required the driver to pay attention to what he did with his feet. mike
Personally I always liked the Corvairs. Oldest son had a coupe for his first car. Except for leaking large amounts of oil it was dependable and fun. We own a larger version of a Corvair. A 22' Ultra Van motorhome capable of speeds over 65 MPH and fuel mileage around 15-18 MPG. I really can't say because ours has never been on the road yet. If enough people complain an Army tank can be made to sound unsafe at any speed. And many were!
I really enjoyed my Corvairs. Will yet find another to hide out back till the DW spies it, then I can start driving it .
My pop had a 63 Monza 900 convertible, white, white top, red interior, 4 speed, great car! When I was 15, I rode to skool once with a neighbor boy that had a 62 Monza, it was a rare icy morning here in Ga and when Jim got to the bottom of the hill, he nailed the accelerator like he always did, that little car swapped ends real quick, we must have spun around 2 or 3 times in the middle of the street before stopping........it never flipped over though. Take that Ralph, lol!
Losing a rear engine car is spooky. I raced Porsche 90's and SC's when I was a young guy and once you lose that rear engine car it's tough to get it back! Gotta go watch Sergio Martinez box now!
Yeah, I think we were lucky and actually avoided the dreaded "flip" by the ice on the road which may have prevented the rear wheels from tucking under. Amazingly , we hit none of the mailboxes that kept passing by the windshield, lol. Jim is actually not that bad a driver and not a candidate for a show like Canada's Worst. This was a 2 door post car. The Corvair line also included a wagon(Lakewood) and a Greenbriar van type. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvair
