Here is what I think is a neat lifetime goal. Have one special car in your collection that was made in the same year that you were. If you were going to do this what would you be looking for? For me I think it might be something like this... http://www.collectioncar.com/detailed.php?ad=29359&category_id=1&lang=en mike
OK, I'll play along..... I was born in October, 1951, so actually by then the new 1952 models were out. I'm going to fudge just a little and pick a '52 vehicle. How about this one?
For me it would be a 1939 Ford coupe. I have one in the barn but can't get photos so I borrowed these from a car show. I've always loved 1940 Fords and the 1939 is very much the same, only better with the wipers above the crank opening windshield. Two things a 40 does not have. I had a front view. Someone must have driven it away?
Well, ok then...........I was born late August, 1946. I have a retirement project in my garage in a million pieces.........a 1947 Chevy 2 door sedan, built in November, 1946. That's close enough for me and the girls I sleep with.
Oh Man...... I have my birth year propjet in the garage since 87, I think I can safely say I'll be dead before some one else gets to start on it .............."Ill restore it one day"....
I was born in '62 - here's what I'd like: Last year for solid rear axle. Love the duck tail, removal of the frivolous stuff like spears on the trunk, fake louvers on the hood. I even like that the side coves are not painted on 62's. The cockpits on these are awesome too! I think they're one of the most stylish and interesting interiors ever made. Make mine a 4 speed with a 327 - fuel injected.
I can see why you picked that one!!!!! Do I spy a Florida tag on that beauty? I too was born in 1951, in April, and it would be hard to find a better car to represent the year than a Mercury or Ford wagon with real wood and a flathead V8 under the hood. I like the understated styling of the nose on the shoebox Ford a little better, but the Merc had a nicer interior and other deluxe features. Did the Merc still have a little bigger V8 than the Ford that year? (I used to know the engine codes for Flathead Fords) A VERY nice 1951 Ford Country Squire here: http://www.boldride.com/ride/1951/ford-country-squire-woodie-station-wagon#gallery/9
My FIRST car was a 1959 Ford Anglia that my father used on the road as a traveling salesman. Then when he got a company car, (A Valiant) my mom drove it for a couple of years, then my sister learned to drive in it, and finally it came to me. It was a very durable, if unexciting car. A 1951 Anglia would be cool to have: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2011/08/22/hemmings-find-of-the-day-1951-ford-anglia/
