1955 Chrysler Town and Country Deluxe wagon....ultra rare!!! (Placentia, Ca)

    "VIN: N5546702

    Stock #:

    Mileage: 53,000
    Transmission: Automatic

Station wagons are quickly becoming some of the most collectable automobiles. Fewer wagons were built than their brother and sister sedans and coupes and perhaps even fewer were well cared for. Most ended up in junk yards when their use for transporting the family had expired. Sad-but true. In 1955, Chrysler introduced the New Yorker Deluxe Station Wagon. Though production numbers seem to vary, most would agree that just over 1,000 of these grand station wagons were manufactured….some say 1,036 is the correct number. How many have actually survived is anyone’s guess, some believe only a hand-full; perhaps less than ten. These cars were equipped with the 331 cubic inch Hemi engine developing 250 horse power; the same engine that powered the opulent 1955 Imperial coupe and the balance of the New Yorker line-up. These Wagons were the most expensive station wagons of their day selling for nearly $5,000.00; a rather hefty amount at the time! This car: This car is in simply superb order. Finished in Canyon Tan with Desert Sand interior- the indicated 53,000 miles are believed to be original. After looking at the car very carefully and driving it, one would almost have to conclude that the miles are indeed actual and correct. Everything on the car fits well, nothing shows excessive wear and the car runs and drives flawlessly; the interior is just as nice. The Photos that accompany this car simply do not lie; the car really is this nice. The car was found in Studio City California. Rumor has it that a certain Cecil B. DeMille drove one of these Chrysler wagons and interestingly enough, there is a rather unique surprise mounted under the driver seat of this car indicating that it may have belonged to him, though DeMille’s ownership of this particular car has not yet been proven; it is still being researched. This is an extraordinarily desirable and very, very rare Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe wagon, and is available for the first time in many years. The car is equipped with its optional clock and a set of 5 factory MotorRim and Wheel wire wheels. .

I generally don't care for anything older that '57, but for this one I'd make an exception......

If anyone should know I should. But maybe I didn't watch that particular show. I have a memory for the old days that is enviable. But I don't remember a show that anyone drove a car like that wagon.

Oh my, Wow, nice wagon. Really nice. Can you imagine opening the door to your shop every day and that is looking at you just waiting to go for a cruise?

Yeah....I can, Saf. Unfortunately. I love that car. Afraid to email for a price. It will be big. The car looks right out of the fifties in & out.

I can't even imagine what price a person would put on it. It is gorgeous. The only thing it is missing is the registration in the glove box with my name on it....................And of course the only thing besides this car that I'm missing is the money to buy it. And then, if I did buy it, I can think of two things I'd be missing real quick if I couldn't out run the DW

LOL...well, Saf...in some ways I miss the troubles you have. But, in this case, I only have one of those problems. If I didn't have that one problem...this wagon would be here right now. Dead serious. That is a definite keeper. There was a time I would have this car, the 61 Polara and several others in my garage. Those days have gone.

KK, I'm with SF on this one. I'm usually pretty good identifying old tv cars, but try as I might, I can't come up with it. Who was it?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this car is as rare as he claims it is, (and I'm not saying it isn't), and if it's worth as much as the present owner thinks it is, then shouldn't he be considerably more careful with it when he's positioning it for a photo shoot? In one of the pics, the right rear corner is in that bush and I dare say there's some new scratches on that right rear 1/4 that weren't there before.

I'm not familiar with the dealer, and I lived real near there when I was in Orange. Even on the website version of the ad they're not giving a price. My guess it's in the $40k area.

    The T.V. show........?

I listened to Sky King on the radio in the early 40's. Never even knew there WAS a SK TV show. What years?

It ran on TV from (approx) 1952 to 1962, but there were only a total of 72 episodes made. Production of the show was not continuous, and it also changed networks part way through....
