I know this is a forum for wagons, but I know you guys haul some heavy cars. I've been looking around and can't find any big truck forums. I just bought a GMC TOPKICK and will be building a hauler. Its a '94 6500, and was a moving truck. It had a 24' box on it that I already sold. Im gonna put a first gen Cadillac Escalade body on it, and a roll back behind that. The TOPKICK nose cone will bolt directly to the Escalade, and it will look like a 3 ton suburban. The truck has a 200HP CAT diesel, and an Alison automatic. Im just looking for others like me, I tend to stay so far out side the box people can't even believe what Im doing.
Sounds like that is going to be incredibly unique and head turning when you get it all done. Best of luck with it.
Yeah, I don't have a truck myself either. In the well over 100 vehicles I have owned, I only owned 2 pickups. '79 Chevy 1/2 ton 2WD, 225 I6 3 Speed and an 87 GMC S-15 2WD, 2.5 I4. The second I had either, everyone and their brother was after me to help them move their junk for them. I am not a pickup guy, that bed is 6-8 feet of wasted space, IMO. If I need a truck, a phone call and gas money is all I need to hire one from my dad, brothers, cousin or boss. I try to only make purchases that I can fit in the back or on the roof of my wagons, but I can also hook up my 6x16 flatbed trailer to the back of Old Blue if it does not fit.
Here's the first pic, its the only one I have right now.(yellow truck) I got the injectors lashed, and she runs great. Now I just need my caddy! The 2nd pic is a friends truck, I know its not a great pic but you get the idea. Wait till I see his suburban again, then you will see what BIG really means!
Oh I won't just scare little old ladies, the mear site of this truck will strike fear in the hearts of children!
There is a guy not that far away who has been doing that with GM and FORD big trucks for many years. I remember way back in the early 80's he was building and selling them, both in big truck cab, regular truck bed or transplanting the whole body from a standard pickup to a big truck chassis. Cool concept, but not my thing.
