Was flipping around last night, and HBO was playing the Kevin Costner/Clint Eastwood/Laura Dern movie "A Perfect World", which I hadn't seen in 20+ years. It seems a lot of folks forgot/never heard of this film. It's about a escaped convict who kidnaps and then develops a bond with an 8-year-old boy, and the police chase to hunt them down. Really good movie, with both funny and sad parts, and great acting in general. This movie takes place in 1963, actually November '63, just before Kennedy came to Dallas in fact (with an Airstream trailer and GMC truck that were supposed to BE in Dallas to show the president). Nearly all the vehicles in the movie are just fantastic (OH that Olds Wagon!), as is the Central Texas scenery. This was ALL filmed here around Austin, on the back-roads and in the small towns that I love to explore in my old cars and on motorcycles. I think if I was OUT of Texas and watched this, the wide-open-spaces and rolling hill scenery would make me REALLY terribly homesick!

Good movie...but go in knowing it doesn't have a terribly happy ending. The acting and vehicles are worth it!

I don't think I've ever heard of it. Sounds like a cool movie from a car and scenery perspective.

Bummer to hear it doesn't have a happy ending.

Clint Eastwood directed it. Good movie, worth watching for sure.

Yup. Elijah Wood played the kid, his first acting gig. And I didn't know that was filmed around Austin, that does look to be some very nice country.

This is supposed to take place in November of 1963? That must be the maiden voyage for that Oldsmobile vista cruiser seeing that it's a 64....Longroofs Rule!

A running joke in the movie is that the Olds wagon is brand-new, and not to drive it too fast as it's still breaking-in.

I hope that the terrible ending isn't that the Olds gets demolished in the end!
