Am still keeping my eyes peeled for a wagon I like, but for years I wanted to find one; when I came to the US back in 1978 to go to college, in 1979 a then girlfriend's father took us to lunch in his new 1979 Cadillac Seville. Was super impressive to me and my first ride in a Cadillac! So, since then always wanted one and found this one in Florida, also colors I wanted. Needed some mechanical work, these are the first ones with fuel injection and a b..ch to get right. But had a good mechanic who worked with me. Did a lot of cosmetic cleaning, claying, waxing, engine bay clean etc. Absolutely love it and get a lot of compliments on the road.
The two adjustments to "get it right" are the engine idle speed and the distributor position (and not necessarily timing, either). Once those are in the ballpark, and everything else is correctly working, it should run pretty smoothly. Oh, one other thing: the computer has the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor in it, and it cannot be easily changed if the sensor goes bad. So find a spare matching computer with a good MAP sensor, just in case.
rrbnut .... nice Seville ... not many around any more. Circa 1979 - 1980 .... "I wanted one too" .... one of the gals from the famous Richardson family in Winnipeg had bought a new one ... she was into art and ballet and had chosen the colors herself ..... the car was drop dead gorgeous ... every head turned when it drove by ..... I called it "artwork on wheels" .... she chose the dark red for the lower color and copper color for the upper. I include a picture of the colors below ... only hers were reversed. She bought it at the McNaught GM dealership .... I owned an autobody shop at the time and bought my parts from them and thinking I had an advantage , I approached the sales manager and told him to let me know when she traded it it .... I would pay top dollar . He smiled , rummaged under his counter , and produced a notebook with about 50 names of people who also "reserved" the car ..... and then he pointed out his name was at the top .... haaaaa ... he was the original salesman she bought it from. She must have liked it too ... many years later she was still driving it , still immaculate ... and I still want it !!!!!
A few years ago I found a yellow ‘76 at a swap meet here in New Mexico. The car had 24,000 miles on it and is in stunning condition. Really a great car, and really enjoy driving it.
The one I had, it had been mechanically and outwardly restored, lime metallic with light green interior. Traded a couple cars for it, got it running really good, traded it for a '75 Torino elite and cash. Seven or so months later, it was burned to the ground from a total loss house fire. Even the alloy wheels were goners.
rrbnut, that's a beautiful looking Cadillac. Congratulations. It's always great to see someone having an automotive dream fulfilled.
