Good eye KK, didn't notice that till your mention. I did notice the extreamly out dated pics also Cat Edit...kinda have to wonder about the date thing because of my yesterday........ My work camera failed and I took a old one out from storage as I had to send pics of parts needed....... my pics taken yesterday had a 2010 date on them, so maybe....... just say'n....
True on the camera film dates. Sometimes when replacing batteries the camera will go back to the date it was made. About that fuel spillage, too many people spill it and just let it run and dry up! Sadly not many stations have towels anymore either. When that happens to me I have my wife stand close and I use her skirt!
. Yeah, the days of a real gas station are gone. Up untill a couple years ago CO-OP gas staions in my world still supplied anti freeze and window cleaner top ups, long gone..but at least they still supply 20grit sand paper towels....for the moment that is.....thats why I allways say, NO, my windows are OK, don't touch that, I have my own paper towels to clean up............ .....GET THE FU** away from my car, I've been putting gas in my ride longer than you've been alive!
What a racket. Here in Oregon, it is (in most cases) illegal to fill your own gas tank. All the stations have pump jockeys, but you think they would offer you full service as well - check your oil, clean your glass? Nooooooo.....good luck with that. Once in a great while, you might find a station where a nice pump guy will clean your windshield, but very rarely.
I remember in Illinois and Iowa when they first went to self service. Gas was a nickle cheaper when you pumped your own. Then they all went to self service only. But ladies could still get their tank filled by an attendent. So much for equal rights! As far as the nickle we saved, I don't know what happened to that deal! Now we fill our own and no one checks anything. Plus we get to go inside or up to a window and wait till a half dozen walk-in customers buy beer, lotto tickets, and groceries. Even if you are driving a 77 Ford woodie wagon which is what the topic is about.
Even if they have a fill-up lackey, I wont let them fill up my junk. I have ended up with mystery scratches from people who fill tanks for minimum wage. Thanks but no thanks. I never been to a state that does not allow you to fill your own tank. Thanks for the heads up KK, if I ever come through Oregon, I will be sure I have enough gas to blow through the whole state without having to fill up. I am surprised nobody has yet mentioned the difference in paint, trim and woodgrain on the passenger fender. Thats the first thing I saw when glancing at the pics for 1/2 a second. I love when the Earl Scheib wannabe bodymen will picture frame a repair and not bother to try to hide the difference in paint color and clear coat smoothness by blending into the adjacent panel. Sure its harder to do with wood and trim, but they could have made it less noticeable if they bothered to try. EDIT: By looking a little harder, I see the passenger front door has also been repaired at a different time then the fender, so she has had her cherry popped atleast 2 times on the passenger side.
I worked in a Gulf station when I was 16, we were pumping 100,000 gallons a month with 6 pumps. Full service only when I first started working there, then they opened up a 3 pump island remote from the front for self service and correct, customers saved about a nickel a gallon. Free car wash with a fill up from the full service side. Oil, battery and any other fluids customer requested for free. Air for tires, windshield and rear window glass(if needed) cleaned. Complete service/repair work performed in 3 bays. Tires, batteries, belts, hoses, tune ups, wheel alignments. Those were some fun days!
