I'm more interested in what engine we'd put INTO this Pinto.......

I was thinking a modern 3.7 V6 from the current Mustang, but I'm not sure about the space.
Second choice might be the turbo/intercooled 2.3 4-cylinder from the old Thunderbird Turbo. I know that would fit, too.

I don't think the 3.7 would have a prayer at fitting in the Pinto engine bay. The 2.8 Cologne V6 some of the Pinto's got was a 60 degree engine so more of an upright narrower configuration whereas the 3.7 is prolly a 90 degree.

There are lots of Pintos (relatively speaking) running around with SB 302 V8s, which were 90 degrees between banks. I'm not familiar with the 3.7, but I'm guessing it's OHC, so that might be a problem.

The Turbo T-Bird 2.3 was a recommended swap at one time, but I wonder how easy one would be to find these days (at least in decent shape). The 302 might be the best overall choice. There are plenty available, and the swap's been done enough times that all the problems should have been solved, and you wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel (so to speak).
