I'm thinking this may go off relatively cheap. I don't know why the engine and tranny would have to be rebuilt with the present mileage being at 95K but it's nice that it's a 401. Rare I would think. Worth watching and worth a look if you are close to it.

I love it... the 71-74 Ambassador wagons with woodgrain are my favorite AMC! This one being loaded is icing on cake! Wish it were local and I had some extra $/room for it! :)

I understand that the 401 is a good engine with good power. I'm not familiar with them but I have some experience with the 360. The 360 drank fuel like a drunken sailor drinks alcohol....I can't imagine what kind of mileage the 401 would get?? But, I like this car.:yup:

Having had one in a Spirit with 2.35 gears, and driving in easy, I got 15 mpg.

Get some quality muffler bearings and a set of 6" dual exhaust and you'll have 30MPG for a million miles............

Let's see, Ambassador, not Matador, has the Brougham option, and has the 401 plus most if not all the comfort and convenience options, and is solid, even if not the prettiest thing on the road. This all adds up to one great car to own if the price stays within bounds. Could be a wicked good buy.
