I rather like the dash design on these. I remember seeing a few of them around back in the late 70s and early 80s.

Very rare, even when they were new. Mazda was still fairly new in the US in '71. I don't recall even seeing any advertising for this model. There was also a 4-door sedan. From what I remember, this was the 'large' Mazda model at that time, predecessor to the RX-4 model that I had (with the rotary engine). Not sure if this older model ever had a rotary version.

According to that fount of all knowledge, Wikipedia, there were 937 Mazda 1800 Wagons imported into the U.S. in 1970 and 1,639 in 1971. None in 1972.

Here is one (another '71) that was for sale last December in Detroit:

So, sadly for the seller of this wagon in Carnation, WA, it is no longer the "only one known to exist in the U.S.".

It's a cute little wagon, but finding any body parts would be difficult. I believe the engine is the same one they put in their P/U (the non-rotary version), and also the same one as in the early Ford Courier P/U's.

I think this was the ad Tedy was linking to:

    The ad text reads:

"Streamlined and raring to go. On extra long trips. Or just around the corner. Mazda 1800 delights the eye. And it is a joy to drive. With the power to outdistance the pack."

It was an OK truck, if a bit crude. Bought it from ole' Cal Worthington Ford in Long Beach. Our '79 Toyota was much nicer.

The spartan aspect (crudity if you will) of our 1979 Datsun L'il Hustler was one of the things I most liked about it. No nonsense. Another one I wish I had today.
