That's a neat wagon. I always thought these last Studies were pretty good looking. But why do they always have to put a surfboard on it?

Would that be a Chevy small block with Studie valve covers on it?

Right down to the Delco alternator. I always thought they used Rambler engines, until now

1966 was the last year for the Studebaker Corp and their vehicles. They killed their engine production line and bought engines from Chevrolet for the '65 and '66 model years. The '65's offered the 194 cubic-inch straight 6 and 283 cubic inch V8 that came in the Chevy II. For '66, they added the 230 cubic inch 6 as well. Performance was pretty much out. The 283 was only a 2-barrel.

I think I've seen a few advertised that have been upgraded to Chevy 350's.

Crate engines don't de-value these cars, as long as the originals are kept aside. Even if they weren't, who could complain, except for a museum wishing to buy it?

I may be mistaken, but I thought they also used the 327 Chevy engines in the later years, instead of the 283s. Could be wrong though.

I had thought so too, and was quite surprised to find that the little 283 was the only V8 option.....

^^ No. I knew the Avanti models had the Studebaker engines in the beginning, and then the 327 and 350 Chevys later.
I did think the 327 was available in the '65/'66 Lark/Cruiser. I wuz wrong.

I also thought the 327 4bbl was available for the 66 Daytona Models. I seem to remember at least 1 so equipped cleaning up in the Pure Stock Drag Racing series.

Agreed, they are kinda neat, but other than either carrying a refrigerator upright, or your Llama or Alpaca home in comfort, I don't know how usefull they were? A classmate in H/S had one and if he retracted it all the accumulated water in the tracks would come down on the rear seat passengers and anything/anyone in the rear storage area.

Studebaker started using Chevy mills, once they ran out of Studebaker blocks:
