I've been told my car might be totaled, I was hit so hard my frame was pushed up and even though that can be fixed, the parts I need replaced, tail light and rear quarter panel I guess, are hard to find. So I'm here in hopes I can salvage this because I've only had this car for a year and a half, it only has 66,500 miles on it and is in great condition.
I wish you luck. We lost our 2001 Mustang GT convertible in Sept after what I considered a moderate collision. No airbags deployed, no injuries, but right front frame damage took repair cost above book value. Under FL law it was totalled. We looked into having car repaired at our expense but were told we would have a salvage title which could affect future insurance premiums and any damages we could claim if some other fool hit us.
I'll try to help you Ada, as much as I can on a forum. Chances are, your '94 Chevy Cavalier IS a total loss, with the damage you are describing. With buckling of the frame rails and outer quarter panel, the labor alone to repair it would exceed the value of the car. By the way, your vehicle does not have a body bolted to a separate frame. It has what it called 'unitized' construction, where the body structure, floor pan, and frame rails are built as one welded unit, right from the factory. Most modern cars are built this way now. The only vehicles these days that have separate full frames are most pickup trucks and larger SUV's. If you can, post up some pics of your damage. I can also help you to get the maximum you can from the insurance company on a total loss pay-out. I spent my career as an insurance company vehicle damage estimator and total loss department supervisor. Marshall

I'm sorry to hear about the accident you were involved in. I hope you will be able to find a suitable replacement if it is unrepairable.
