now this is just silly, he's giving the thing away http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/5141100975.html
Giving it away? Or realizing what it's actually worth and not dickering on the price? I'd rather pay a set price I don't have to dicker on that argue about what something's worth.
I only gave $1200 for my '88 off of a local craigslist ad. The thing looks like brand new inside. Estate car.. They just wanted it gone.
It's a nice-looking car, but it's nearing 150,000 miles, and he admits that it needs tires and brake work. $1750 seems quite reasonable to me.
True, the demand for wagons like this is low. Plus not a lot of people want to work on a used car before driving it. Sounds like a fair deal to me.
Cars this age in California tend to be a pain to deal with on smog, so chances are he's pricing it fairly rather than insisting it's "rare" or "valuable."
Looked it up on the smog test history site and he has the VIN wrong but the license plate shows up as problematic on the last test and it is due for another test if they want to keep driving it. They are probably hoping it sells out of state so they don't have to get it to pass the smog test for legally selling here in CA. http://www.bar.ca.gov/pubwebquery/vehicle/pubtstqry.aspx put in the plate number 2gfw144
If I were in the market for a DD, if I ever had to replace my current one, that would be a tasty one to bring to Washington State, **** Cal DMV and the Cal Legislature. Fawking bulls#!t to gig someone for tab fees when the car is undriveable for whatever reason.
And what about when people Seafoam the piston cylinders, would that work? If I were out in California I'd give it a shot, it worked well on the three engines I used it with though none were car engines. One was a snowblower engine that had been used for 20-21 years and I can guarantee you it had never seen the treatment before plus it blew black smoke when started up, before letting Seafoam soak in the cylinder and flushing it out then repeating a few times. I also replaced the spark plug and changed the oil on the same day, though I'm sure the Seafoam had an effect as it reduced emissions in a lawnmower that I didn't do anything else to.
