1987 Toyota Cressida Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending January 14 (Lot #63,429) | Bring a Trailer
Mmmmmmm...while far from being the most coveted wagon out there, I certainly covet this one! While it's not exactly like the '82 wagon my parents had when I was a teen, they also had an '87 sedan of the same exterior and interior colour, and an '88 sedan that was a champaign beige metallic colour with a sand coloured interior. However, the '87 they had, had a digital dash though. So did the '88, but the '82 wagon had analogue gauges, which I preferred, but they were all cool cars. The cool thing though is that all the Canadian Creissdas never got those horrid automatic power seatbelt mechanisms that the U.S. models got during this era. All the Canadian models (and all cars sold in Canada) had conventional 3-point belts, because the power seatbelts by any manufacturer didn't meet Canadian standards, so we never got them, thankfully. Just look at the price on the dealer sheet though: $20,310. Adjusted for inflation, that's about $50,000 in today's money. Yikes. Luxury has come a long way since then. Even the Lexuses of the early 90s were much more luxury than the Cressida ever was, but the Cressida was a great car nonetheless. I'm not into the whole tuner car scene, but I could see having one of these and keeping it completely stock looking, but boosting the performance into the 400 HP range. The engine these have are essentially the same engine platform as the Supra of the day, so it wouldn't be hard to do. It'd make a fun sleeper.
Also, it's currently sitting at a paltry $2,100. This car is in excellent, but not perfect condition, so it'll be interesting to see how high this one goes for. Cressidas have been going up in price over the last 10 years in particular. Depending on the condition, you could used to get these things for $1,000-$5,000 all day long. Not anymore though. I'll be watching this auction...
Oh, I'm not bidding on it. Sadly, I don't have the room or the money for an extra car at the moment. I was just reminiscing and random posting more than anything. lol
Considering how the market has gone for these, that's actually a pretty fair deal. However, I'd want to know if there are any cracks in the dash under that dash mat before paying that price though.
